ILIDIO MANUEL SOARES August 23, 1945 - June 28, 2013 It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our dear brother, uncle and friend, peacefully in his sleep. Ilidio was predeceased by his father Isidoro in 1986 and his mother Eliza in 2008. Remaining to cherish his memory are brother, Bernard Soares, sister, Maria Mealha (Mario, Mario Jr., Marilyn and Sebastien), sister, Jeannie Soares-Kukelko (David and Meghan). Our family would like to acknowledge the following special people in Ilidio's life; Maria Ferreira who was like a mother to Ilidio, Olivia Ferreira and Tony Da Silva, who were always there to lend a helping hand. Finally, dear friends from Toronto, Eiko Hirano and David Anderson. Ilidio was born in Algarve Portugal and immigrated to Canada in 1962 as a teenager. His trade was carpentry as he loved working with his hands. Ilidio enjoyed fishing, hockey, soccer and football. He was always a Leafs fan. He also liked to play guitar, compose songs, the horse races, bird watching and laughing. He was a quiet and humble person full of faith and kindness. He was always happy with what he had and never uttered an unkind word about anyone. Our brother was in a serious car accident in 1977. After a long recovery process, he was able to walk and work again for a few years. His best friend was his mother who he lived with until her death in 2008. He kept active by volunteering at H.S.C. He enjoyed taking walks and going out for coffee every day to Robins, regardless of weather. He was the kindest person you could ever meet. We will miss his smile, great laugh and gentleness. We thank Dr. R Simkin for her great care over the years, Marie Mazza from Homecare and Erwin Pankratz of Bethania for all their kindness and support. A private service with family and friends will be held on July 22, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, as was Ilidio's wishes. Monsignor Maurice Comeault officiating. Interment at Assumption Cemetery following service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in his memory.
