Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryARTHUR MALCOLM (MIKE) MCMECHAN It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa, Mike McMechan on July 18, 2013 at Concordia Hospital at the age of of 93. Mike was predeceased by his parents, Ina and Sam McMechan, and his brother Bruce. Left to miss his beautiful smile are his wife Irene; children Janice (Charlie), Terry (Debbie), Alison, Grant (Debra); grandchildren Christian (Kim), Iain (Gina), Taryn (James), Neil, Michaela, Brendan and great-granddaughter Madison. Mike was born in Oshawa, Ontario. Prior to his joining the RCAF in the Second World War he was active in sports, especially track and field and downhill skiing. While in the RCAF he was stationed on the Queen Charlotte Islands and later, Manitoba, where he met Irene. They were married in Lockport on June 22, 1946. Originally dad was a printer by trade, but his love of the outdoors and nature led him to start and run a successful tree nursery business. His favourite leisure activity was travelling to see the world. Special thanks to the Concordia Hospital staff, especially N1 North, for their outstanding care and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. If desired, donations in Mike's memory may be made to the Salvation Army. Uncle Mike was a progressive thinker and had a movie camera 65-70 years ago. He took pictures of us as kids which we cherish to this day! When we moved to an acerage in 1975, he and Irene were very generous in giving us trees and shrubs and the only payment was a good bottle of scotch, glenfiddach, no doubt!Thank you for your kindness and generosity!!! - Posted by: Carole Forbister (niece) on: Jul 22, 2013
