Frank Al was born December 16, 1934, in Winnipeg to his parents Frank and Sandra Aitken. Frank started work for Transport Canada on June 26, 1953, and worked for Transport Canada/Environment Canada for 37 years until his retirement in December 1990. Frank was married February 25, 1955 to the love of his life, and best friend Shirley Alice Olson from Starbuck, Manitoba. Frank is survived by his wife Shirley; children Wendy (Dave) Maes, Patty (Paul) Caron; five grandchildren Jared, Ashley, Jennifer, Amanda and Brett, and two great-grandchildren Dylan and Jaxon. Predeceased by son Randall Norman, daughter Terilyn Alma, and sweet granddaughter Stephanie. Frank was also blessed with his loving brothers and sisters Bob (Connie) Aitken, Norma (Harry) Meneer, Doug (Dale) Aitken, Debbie (Don) Smyth, and many other loving family members and friends. Frank was very fortunate to have retired at a young age, which allowed him to travel with Shirley, and many dear friends and relatives, during the winter months. Frank spent every possible moment at the family cottage at West Hawk Lake which he referred to as his "heaven on earth" with his wife Shirley, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. For Frank it was all about family, they always came first with him. He loved people and would do anything to initiate family get-togethers for barbeques or dinners. We will never forget you, and we will always hold a piece of you in our hearts, you were a great and honest man. We are all proud and blessed to have had you in our lives. Thank you to the caring people that looked after Frank at St. Boniface General Hospital, and made his last days as comfortable as possible. A special thank-you to Dr. W. Glew from Prairie Trails Medical Centre. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest a donation in honour of Frank Allan Aitken to CancerCare, or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. First met Frank on a job we did together along with Paul at Berens Lake. We spent the better part of a month together with every day finishing for supper at his cabin. His stories of places he had been alone with his hospitality was something rare and unforgettable. A nicer man I will never meet. Our sincerest condolences to his family. - Posted by: Ron and Mercedes Caron () on: Jul 31, 2013

Our sincerest sympathy to Shirley and family for your loss. I remember Frank Allen Aitken as Frank, but whatever name, I fondly remember him as one of my best ever friends. I will always cherish our deer and moose hunting trips and our unforgettable fishing journeys. Frank always impressed us as a thoughtful caring person and would share the shirt off his back. I know he will be sorely missed by his family and his many, many friends. Rest in peace old friend. i - Posted by: AL AND JEANNE STOREY (OLD FRIEND) on: Jul 30, 2013
