Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA ERICA OKERLUND (nee HINTZ) Peacefully, in her sleep, Olga Erica Okerlund died on July 26, 2013, at the age of 83 years. Her two daughters, Teresa and Lana, were at her side. Born on November 17, 1929, in Golden Bay, Manitoba, Olga grew up in the Golden Bay and Brokenhead areas before moving to Winnipeg in 1947. She married Vern Okerlund on October 8, 1966, and they settled in a home on Oakland Avenue in East Kildonan, where they lived for the next 30 years. In 1996 they moved to Kirchhoff Gardens in St. Vital. Starting in 1984 they enjoyed many summer days at Hillside Beach playing cards and sharing happy times with family and friends. With a lifelong love of sewing, Olga worked at Fabricland for 15 years. She also worked at Canada Packers for 16 years prior to her marriage. Her strong work ethic and friendly manner earned her many friends at both work places and with her neighbours on Oakland and at Kirchhoff. Olga was also an active member of her church communities, first at Grace Lutheran and then at Faith Lutheran Church. Her deep faith in God enriched her life and gave her strength at times of struggle. Olga was predeceased by her husband, Vern (1997), and her parents, Julius (1991) and Helena (2006) Hintz. She will be deeply missed by her beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa and Bryan Byhre and Lana and Ralph Wells, and grandson, Eli Wells; her dear siblings and siblings-in-law, Dorothy, Helen (Ben), Alfred (Marie), Loreen (Myron, deceased 1998), Edna (Rolly), Adeline (Art), and Elmer (Suzie); and numerous first and second-generation nieces and nephews from her and Vern's families. Olga's family would like to thank the many caregivers at Vista Park Lodge and Manitoba home care and Deacon Kris Taylor for the comfort and kindness they gave to her. A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1311 Dakota Street on Thursday, August 1, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of choice. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 neilbardalinc.com
