MARLENE ZAKOWICH (nee HRABEC) Suddenly on August 1, 2013, Marlene passed away at the Health Sciences Centre at the age of 69 years. Marlene is survived by her loving husband Leonard; daughters Melody (Fred), Lori (Ashot); son Michael (Tammy); grandchildren Cody, Madison, Brittany, Mikayla, Matthew, and mother Lydia. She was predeceased by her father Michael, and son Lane. Marlene was born on November 14, 1943 in Winnipeg and worked at the Winnipeg School Division #1. She had a love for animals especially her cats "her girls". Marlene loved cooking and keeping a garden. Marlene looked forward to the holiday seasons and spending time with her family. In retirement she was able to realize her dream of living in the country. The family would like to thank the staff of Women's Hospital 5th floor for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marlene's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-586-8044

  • Marlene touched my heart in so many ways. Having a moment to chat with her always brightened my day. She always had a smile and something funny to share. I also loved talking with her about health issues. Whenever I use black pepper I think of her 'cause she said it was NOT good for you. And she knew a lot. I feel blessed to have known her.   • To the Zakowich family, sorry for the loss of your mother. Marlene was a very loving person. Sometimes I would talk to her on the phone, she would make me laugh. She would call me sweetie. My two granddaughters Mellissa and Alexis loved Marlene. They would call her Baba. They just loved her borsht. I enjoyed picking vegetables out of her garden.
