Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRITA MARIE LAMBLIN (nee HEROUX) 1917 - 2013 Peacefully on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, with family by her side, Rita passed away at the age of 96 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Rita was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Pierre, sons-in-law Derrol Ward, Dave Cowley, grandson Derrol Ward, and sister Lucienne Lane. She is survived by her children Shirley Ward, Cecile Cowley, Doreen and Walter Eby, Robert and Mary Lamblin, and Marilyn and Gus Lodewyks; 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Rita also leaves to mourn her sister Therese Desjarlais, sister-in-law Rose Perry, and many loving nieces and nephews. Mom was born in St. Boniface Hospital April 15, 1917 to parents Frank and Jeanne Heroux. After the loss of her mother at 18 months old, Rita was raised by her grandparents Adolphe and Tharcille Heroux near Eriksdale, MB. Pierre and Rita married in Abbeville, MB in 1936. They farmed in Vestfold, MB before moving to St. Vital. She resided in their family home until her passing. Mom worked extremely hard over the years raising five children and supplementing their income by working numerous jobs - cake decorating being her favourite. Both mom and dad planted and nurtured a huge garden, canning hundreds of quarts of fruits and vegetables, crab apple jelly being her specialty. Mother was meticulous baking cookies, fruit cakes, shortbread and making delicious home cooked meals for everyone - nothing came out of a box! Mother loved "old time" music, singing along and jigging to the tunes. Everyone in the family received her beautiful needlepoint pictures. Mom had a flair for fashion and style in her appearance and her home. Our mother's love was unconditional for her family and we could always count on her support in our lives. She loved to travel to Vancouver to visit her children Cecile, Doreen, Robert and their families. She enjoyed trips to Israel, France, Alaska, California, Florida, Hawaii and the East Coast. Mom was a proud 50 year member of Christ The King Catholic Women's League and a founding member of the parish. The family wishes to thank Dr. Nadine Fontigny and the many specialists for their care over the years. Special thanks to the staff on 6A Family Medicine of St. Boniface Hospital as well as her Home Care Workers. Prayers, reflections and viewing will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, west of the Perimeter Highway. Funeral Mass presided by Rev. Renato Pasinato, will be celebrated on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ The King Church, 847 St. Mary's Road. The heavens are brighter today. Rita is now on the other side of the gates, being greeted by all her loved ones that had passed before her. I felt so fortunate on Thursday night to be a part of the real celebration of Rita's life with her children and grandchildren standing to tell the stories that reminded each other what great memories are made of. I watched the video made with love for her 90th birthday. It was great to see all of her family celebrations, her adventures on holidays, willing to try everything and having fun where ever she went. I first met Rita, in the bakery in the Dakota Village always greeting you with a smile and remembering your favorite goodies. The shopping center was a close family in the 60's We all supported each other having our lunch and coffee breaks at the "Thunderbird Restaurant" and not able to resist the still hot donuts on the way by "The Donut house". Putting on layaway the outfit at "Brody's Fashions" for that special occasion and the great pair of shoes that went with it at "Shoe Fair". We had our resident Dentist "Dr. Paul". Men Had their haircut by "George the Barber" and all the ladies had their standing appointment to have their hair done and to tell us about their week. Rita always had amazing family stories. When our day ended at 5 pm, we would often have our shopping center league bowling at "Charley Sheppard's Bowling alley. The Dakota Village WAS "the St. Vital Mall" the only thing south of us were farms. Being in the same location since 1963. We have had many loyal clients over the years, but none could compare to Rita. For over 50 years I felt I was a part of Rita's family, Styling her hair for those special events, of which she had many. Her Memory was amazing, her sense of humor always sharp and she had such pride describing family fun stories. We will all certainly miss Rita at the Salon. Watching the 90th birthday I can remember doing her hair for almost all the special events. Rita was a beautiful Lady inside and out. Your family was so blessed to have her and she was so blessed to have you. forever grateful, Suzy - Posted by: Suzy Caci (Hair Stylist) on: Aug 11, 2013

It was always a joy to meet Rita at Mass. We were both long time members of Christ the King Parish. I regret that I will not be able to attend her funeral, because I will be out of town on that day with my family. - Posted by: Margaret Murphy (Parishioner of Christ the Ing Church) on: Aug 05, 2013

My condolences to all her family. I was so glad to have seen her at Auntie Lou's funeral. When I was a kid I remember seeing her stepdancing which I love also. At Lou's funeral she didn't want me to take her picture because she told me she looked too old. She was a lady!
