WILLIAM PERCY LEAMAN 1923 - 2013 It is with sadness we announce the passing of William (Bill) Leaman on August 1, 2013. Bill was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (2009) after 59 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter Heather (Larry) Hunter, his grandchildren Tiffany (Tom) Ford, Allan (Andreanna) Hunter, and one fantastic great-grandson, Alexander Ford, now 16 months old, who loved his visits with great-grandpa, although ended all too soon. Bill was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 23, 1923, and as a young boy, moved with his family to Canada. Bill joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1943 and was a member of the Fort Garry Horse unit. He was stationed throughout Europe during the war; France, Germany and Holland to name a few, returning to Holland to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Liberation. He was deeply touched by the warmth and appreciation shown by the people and always looked fondly back on those memories. Bill was proud of his memberships and active roles through the years in several service organizations including the Royal Canadian Legion Br 1, the Fort Garry Horse Association, International War Veterans Association, all of which he was honoured with Lifetime Memberships. Bill also took pride in his affiliation with the Masonic Lodge #763 and the Khartum Temple 101 Club. Bill retired from Canada Post after many years as a letter carrier. He was active with the Postal social club and worked at many dances and functions. In his spare time, he enjoyed curling on Sunday mornings at the Victoria Curling Club. The family wishes to express gratitude to Chaplain Doug Koop and all the wonderful staff of 3E at Concordia Hospital who were there with us this past week, and our deepest appreciation to the staff at Middlechurch Personal Care Home for their excellent care and support over the last four and a half years. Bill felt very much at home there. A service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with a short viewing at 9:30 a.m., Service at 10:00 a.m., and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. (Over the many years that Bill was a "Postie", there was always room in his bag for dog cookies to share with his four legged friends along the route). Heather, I was deeply saddened to hear of your father's passing. He was my favorite person and the last link to my parents. I loved him very much. Every so often I would give him a call to check up on him and chat and whenever I came home for a visit, I would make sure that I would pop in and say hi. There should be more people like him. I'll never forget his laugh. I remember when Mom and I would go and play bingo at the legion and he would be working. He was always doing something. He was so much fun. I'm glad I got to know him. Even now I still refer to him as Mr. Leaman because that's the way it was. I will really miss him. God bless you. - Posted by: Madeleine Crump. (Olimb), Maple Ridge, BC (Friend) on: Jan 25, 2014
