HELEN DENEKA (nee LISOWICK) It is with extremely heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Helen Deneka at her home at the age of 95 years. Helen was born on November 17, 1917 at Vidir, MB to parents Conrad and Barbara Lisowick, she had nine sisters. Helen attended school in Okno, MB. Mom worked very hard helping her dad and mom on the farm. In 1940 Helen married John Deneka and together they resided at the farm in Okno, MB. Helen is lovingly remembered but sadly missed and now in the arms of the Lord. Mom will be dearly missed by her daughter Phyllis (Nick Ladyka) of Winnipeg, MB; sons Tony Deneka (Katie) and Russell Deneka (Pat) of Arborg, MB; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Robert (Lisa), Alex and Connor Deneka of Winnipeg, Mary Anne (David), Morgan and Madison Sumka of Arborg, Gladys (Brad), Hunter and Carter Hokanson of Fort McMurray, AB, Debbie (Armond), Ksenia and Torin Stansell of Campbell River, BC, Kevin Deneka of Winnipeg, and James Ladyka of Winnipeg. Helen is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law: Ettie Croiter of Saskatoon, SK, Stella (Louis) Madec of Surrey, BC, Sophie (Art) Knox of Winnipeg, MB and Elsie Miller of Winnipeg, MB. Helen was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will also be dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Helen was predeceased by her husband John, two children Sally and Bob, parents Conrad and Barbara Lisowick, sisters Sadie, Mary, Jean, Lily and Dora. Helen was born November 17, 1917. She was born and raised in Vidir, MB. In 1940 she married John Deneka where they farmed and raised their family in the Okno area. In 1968 they retired from farming and moved to Arborg, MB. In 2001 mom sold her house in Arborg and moved to live with her daughter in Winnipeg. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She loved to play cards and bingo. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the W.R.H.A. Palliative Care nurses and their programs for the excellent care and guidance through this difficult time. Very special thanks to all her homecare workers who helped us during this time of need. Funeral Service will take place at Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Arborg, MB on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Father Michael Kwiatkowski officiating with interment to follow at Okno Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, Lung Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
