DR. SUSAN LUKAS
Born: Sep 30, 1960
Date of Passing: Aug 09, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. SUSAN LUKAS September 30, 1960 - August 9, 2013 Peacefully with her family by her side, we sadly announce the passing of our beloved Susan after a valiant battle with breast cancer. Susan leaves to mourn her passing, children Matthew and Lindsay Weiser, husband Rob Weiser, parents Nikolaus and Elisabeth Lukas, and siblings Doris Jordan, Anton, Kathleen and Robert Lukas, along with their families. Susan was an extremely determined and intelligent person who didn't stop until her goals were reached. After graduating from Garden City Collegiate in 1978, she went on to obtain her Diploma in Dental Hygiene, Bachelor of Arts , Doctor of Dental Medicine and Master of Clinical Dentistry-Orthodontics. She worked as a Dental Hygienist in Victoria, BC, practiced dentistry in northern Manitoba and taught at the University of Manitoba as an Assistant Professor in the Dental Hygiene, undergraduate Dental and Orthodontic programs. While at the University of Manitoba, she was voted "Best Teacher" by her students. In 2009, she opened her own practice (Family Orthodontics) that grew solely by word of mouth. Dr. Lukas was a gifted orthodontist and was very proud of her work. Though education and career were important to Susan, it was her children, Matthew and Lindsay, that were her pride and joy. Her biggest regret was not being there to see them grow up and become the wonderful people she raised them to be. Her other regret was not being able to finish the work on the last of her orthodontic patients herself. Special thanks to Dr. Tim Dumore, Lynn and Chantal for all their help. As per Susan's wishes, cremation has taken place with a private service planned. Chapel Lawn is in charge of arrangements. Rest in Peace dear Susan! You will be forever in our hearts!

I had the pleasure of being taught by Dr Lukas as a student in the Faculty of Dentistry in 2002 and 2003. However, I'm not sure I really appreciated her strength of character and her spirit until I met her in 2011, coincidentally, while working as a resident at Health Sciences Centre. She had a quiet resolve that calmed everyone around her (including her hyperactive resident) and many kind words for me. The light is a little bit dimmer now that Susan has left. - Posted by: Blair Dalgliesh (Former student, 1999-2003) on: Sep 06, 2013

Don't know what to say, you were my teacher, my daughter orthodontist, the smile which welcomed me in Winnipeg. Cannot tell how much I enjoyed sharing the mom's stories, the dentist experience, and a real person who loved life and fought for it. You are so ethical, friendly and beloved. For Mathew and Lindsey, your mom is one of a kind, you were her centre of attention with all her other responsibilities and professional commitments. I was looking up to her how she always have you first. She was a great teacher and life role model for many people... RIP Susan always the best goes first.... Susie, you had goals and dreams that you let nothing stand in your way of achieving. You helped when help was needed and always had a strong head on your shoulders. I can speak of a little brother who could not imagine not having you around while he was growing up, whose eyes would light up when you walked in the door, who always wanted to make you proud as he thought the world of you. Good luck on the next stage of your journey sis... - Posted by: Robert (Brother) on: Aug 12, 2013

Friendship, what does 47 years of friendship mean. Susan from kindergarten through high school through marriage and children, we shared many years of life. From the beginning you have been the most caring and thoughtful person I have had the pleasure to be friends with. Always finding the time in our busy lives to share a birthday and never forgetting an occasion. You never changed years later still remaining the kind caring and helpful person you had been from the start. You were always the smartest in class and I knew your profession you chose to be a Doctor was truly you. You became the most compassionate and caring person that I have ever met as a Doctor. You cared for your patients including my children as if they were your own. Your were brilliant in your job and would work till everything was perfect never settling for less. I will miss our time together and even though you were taken too early I will remember all the times we shared. You and Rob have raised two beautiful children who I know will grow up as you both are, thoughtful, caring and wonderful people. I will miss you my friend and wish you rest in peace. Till we meet again your friend Vali My condolences to your family & please remember I will always be here if you need anything - Posted by: Vali Burik (Friend) on: Aug 12, 2013
