SARAH SYLVIA CHARTRAND February 1, 1934 We are saddened to say that our dearly loved mom passed away on August 5, 2013, in Winnipeg. She is predeceased by her parents, three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her two beloved children, Kelly and Shasta, her two grandchildren, Megan (Jon), Lucas and her great grandson Theodore. Also surviving is her sister Beverly, numerous nieces and nephews and some very close friends. Mom was born and raised in The Pas and received her schooling there at Sacred Heart and the local high school. After being in the labour force for fifteen years, Mom returned for her business course at the Keewatin Community College and, after completion, was taken on staff where she worked for three years. She then went to work for the federal government in The Pas, Thompson and Winnipeg for the next twenty-five years retiring in 1994, after which time she travelled extensively - and always with a return ticket. In her younger years most travel was done shank's mare. There will be no funeral service. Interment will be in The Pas at a later date. Thank you to Dr. Heinrichs, her home care ladies Mercedes and Christine, and the compassionate staff at Riverview Health Centre. Sylvia loved animals so in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to your local animal shelter. • We were classmates at Sacred Heart and High School and she was so jolly and happy and made us laugh I will miss her even though I've only seen her a few times in recent years with cousin Irene. My condolences to family and all her many friends. - Posted by: Doreen Chartrand Beaupre (another cousin) on: Aug 12, 2013

  • I had the pleasure of visiting Sylvia with my Aunt Irene in recent years. Your mother was gifted with exceptional intellect and memory. She spoke reverently of her mother, what she accomplished in the raising of her large family in extreme poverty, but always with cleanliness and dignity to the best of her ability. I loved that about Sylvia. She had a lively interest in our genealogy as well. I shall always remember her with warmth. - Posted by: Jacqueline Chartrand (distant, distant cousin) on: Aug 11, 2013

My condolences to family and friends. - Posted by: Ted Chartrand (Distant cousin (brother to Irene Chartrand Gilpin)) on: Aug 11, 2013

  • I knew your mother all my life, but got to know her better in the early '50s. I remember thinking she is the smartest Chartrand I ever knew. I live in London but visited Winnipeg twice in the last five years. We always got together and reminisced about the past. Sylvia had a very keen memory for detail and always told it like it was. I shall miss her. - Posted by: Irene Chartrand Gilpin (Distant cousin) on: Aug 11, 2013
