DENNIS GRIMOLFUR GRIMOLFSON August 30, 1944 August 12, 2013 After a very brief illness, it is with deep sorrow that that family wishes to announce the sudden passing of Dennis Grimolfur Grimolfson at the age of 68 years, on Monday, August 12, 2013 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Dennis was predeceased by his wife Betty in 2001, his son Darren in 2009, his parents Grimsi and Dolly Grimolfson and brother-in-law Olafur Thorsteinson. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Kendra Hapel, daughter-in-law Raelene Grimolfson, grandchildren Amanda and Atli Grimolfson and Tristan and Dayna Hapel, siblings Merilyn (Neil) Baldwinson, Ivan (Christine) Grimolfson, Solly Thorsteinson and Curtis Grimolfson. As well, sisters-in-law, June (Cliff) Cooke and Ethel (Oscar) Einarson and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dennis was born on Hecla Island on August 30, 1944. He worked for the Province of Manitoba, Department of Highways for 35 years. Upon retirement, he and Betty moved to their home on the lake in Arnes, MB where he loved nothing more than sitting on the deck and gazing out at the water. Dennis was a family man who enjoyed any reason to get together. He particularly enjoyed spending special time with his four grandchildren. He loved cooking and entertaining family and friends, and especially loved his coffee times at Merilyn and Neil's. Dennis was a commercial fisherman and couldn't wait to get on the lake for the spring and fall seasons in Hecla, one of his favourite places to be. He enjoyed staying fit and keeping busy by maintaining his property in show condition or by helping others. One of Dennis' special contributions was his volunteering at the Adult Day Program at Seven Oaks and Gimli Hospitals. Dennis was a kind, dedicated, gentle man who possessed a witty, quick sense of humour that he kept with him until the very end. Private family burial will occur prior to the service. Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 17 at the Riverton Community Hall, Riverton, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, we would ask that you give of your time for a special cause in Dennis' honour. Dad Life hasn't been easy for you Since you lost your wife and son That beautiful caring heart of yours Must have weighed a ton Your loyalty as a family man Was plain for all to see Trying to mask the sorrow you felt for them To make life easier for me Heaven is a lucky place To have someone like you Here at home it's different though I have to adjust to something new Please give Mom and Darren A hug and kiss from me Tell them I'll be here awhile To live on our legacy Love You Forever Kendra NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 GIMLI 204-642-7124 NEILBARDALINC.COM

  • Oh Kendra, we are all so very sorry to hear of the loss of your beloved father! Your dad will always be fondly remembered by our family along with your mom and your brother. I know I haven't really known you personally but our brothers were best of friends back in the day and I always have great memories of those 2 with their blonde heads and mischievous smiling faces, up to some type of mischief or another. I also had the chance to get to know your parents better once my parents were living out there, too. after your mom passed I had a few opportunities to chat with your dad and I always felt that he was such a kind and caring soul. Keep your memories close to your heart and take some comfort in knowing that your mom, dad, and brother are all reunited again. My mom will see you tomorrow at the service...Take care Kendra...Sheila, Cheryl and Rod (Prokopowich) - Posted by: Cheryl Pleskach (Prokopowich) (friend) on: Aug 16, 2013
