JACOB (JAKE) SCHULTZ At sunrise, on Monday, August 12, 2013, after a courageous struggle with cancer, at his home, with his family by his side, Jacob Schultz passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Jacob will be sadly missed by his wife Florence of 59 years; sons Bruce and Dennis; daughters Vivian and Lorraine (Wayne); grandchildren Erika, Jessica, Stirling, Katharina (Tim), Jacob and Caleb; and three and a half great-grandchildren. Jacob was born in Chihuahua, Mexico. His parents returned to Canada when he was six months old. Jacob had a strong work ethic and always put the most into each of his endeavors. He worked in several occupations including electrical, mining in Bissett, and then retired from Kimberly Clark. He was a man of integrity. His spirit was gentle yet strong allowing him to become a source of encouragement for those who knew him. He was always most happy in the presence of his family and friends. Jacob's interests were many including the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting, sports, cross country skiing (well into his 70's), gardening (especially his orchids), berry picking, ethnic cuisine, cribbage, and baking his famous "Monster Cookies" for his grandchildren, to name but a few. Jacob was a man who listened with compassion and spoke with wisdom. His passion for life allowed him to approach his death with courage and hope. The family would like to thank the members of the Palliative Care Team, especially Jadwiga, for their support during these past few weeks. Their assistance made it possible for Jacob to remain at home throughout the duration of his illness. A special thank you to the many friends who dropped by or called. Thanks to The Rev. Peter Bush for providing spiritual support and to the members of Westwood Presbyterian for their prayers and acts of kindness. Jacob loved his church family and found in them great inspiration. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Westwood Presbyterian Church, or to a charity of your choice. Please join us on Monday, August 19, at 10 a.m., at Westwood Presbyterian Church as we celebrate Jacob's life and the faith which meant so much to him. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn cemetery. Condolences & Memories (7 entries)

  • So sad to just hear of the passing of Jake (Mr Schultz to me) When my family first moved here from Ottawa (1972) the family took me camping and I still remember it in great detail. Little did I realize that camping meant roughing it after crossing a lake and through the bush to get to where we were going, not a campground. I was just at Superstore and said to a lady, are you Mrs Schultz? I hadn’t seen her for maybe 20 years but was very excited to see her. Memories. • Florence and family. May God give you much encouragement for the rough road ahead. It is so good to remember all the times we spent around the table sharing food, laughter and very special times. We know we will see him soon and share once again in our times together. Love to you all - Posted by: Lawrence and Linda Fifi (Friends ) on: Aug 18, 2013

  • Jake inspired me with the the simplicity of his faith. To him - God is, Jesus Christ lived and died to redeem us from our sins and the Holy Ghost works to do God's work. Jake did God's work in the world by living a good life. He would recount stories of being at work and choosing not to be just like all the rest and fit in. For example, he didn't swear nor would he talk badly of anyone. If called out for being 'different' or if others demand that he act like them he would simply reply to do so would just not be christian like. He didn't try to evangelize or make his faith exceptionally public, he just hoped others would be attracted to the christian way of life by his example. He had the implicit faith that if needed, God would ensure His will was being done as long as Jake was living the way God wanted. Such simple, quiet and yet truly convicted faith is an example many of us could learn from. - Posted by: David & Norma Myers (Friend) on: Aug 15, 2013
