Phil was born on June 24, 1929 in Gilbert Plains, MB to Rhoda and Percy Baker. One of five children, he grew up and attended school in McCreary, MB. He chose to follow in his father's footsteps, working his whole career with United Grain Growers. His integrity and hard work earned him a position as Area Manager in Swift Current, SK, and finally Head of Western Operations based in Winnipeg, MB. Just prior to retiring he and his wife Marie moved to Ste. Anne, MB where they created their personal paradise, Oakstone Acres where they enjoyed peace, tranquility and a small' garden and orchard. Phil rejoiced in the great outdoors, where he loved to fish, hunt, and garden. He was also a skilled woodworker, creating much of the furniture in their homes; and enjoyed a rousing game of cribbage or billiards. He is survived by the love of his life, Marie Anne, who was by his side for 64 wonderful years, and three children Donna (Stan) Yaskiw, Dale (Bonnie) Baker and Ken (Lorena) Baker. He is also survived by his sister Ann Vaadland and grandchildren Jocyeln, London, KaraLee, Krista, Kody, Amber, Anisa, and Darwin, as well as eleven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; siblings Don, Bev and Jean; eldest daughter Carol and grandson Tate. I enjoyed working for Phil and his vast knowledge of the grain business always amazed me. And wonder how he would know all these things, He was a man of few words but when he did everyone would listen, I was proud to call a very good friend. thank you Ken Fuchs - Posted by: Ken Fuchs (YCo worker & Friend ) on: Sep 11, 2013

Phil was a wonderful man to work for. I truly enjoyed the few years that I spent working for Phil and I wish that time period could have been longer. I learned a lot from Phil and I enjoyed his insights into the grain business. He will be missed. My apologies for not being able to attend his funeral. - Posted by: Glenn Dickson (former co-worker) on: Aug 24, 2013
