HERVE JOSEPH NOEL BOURGEOIS We sadly announce the passing of our father and husband Herve Bourgeois at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB, on August 20, 2013 after a lengthy illness at the age of 83. Herve was born on December 12, 1929 at home to Jean and Evelyn Bourgeois in the district of Altamont, MB. Herve was the third child of 10 in the family. In his early years Herve went to Vancouver with his sister Theresa to seek employment and obtained a job at a saw mill. He returned to Manitoba after a short stay to be closer to family, moving to Winnipeg and working for High Grade Heating installing furnaces. Enjoying this work he obtained his gas licence and spent most of his working years with Metro Propane until he retired in December 1989 due to health concerns. In 1950 he met his future wife Martha whom he married on July 21, 1951 at Dolyny Ukrainian Catholic Church. Herve and Martha's favourite pastimes were camping and fishing with their three sons. In 1975 they built a cottage at Bayshore Heights north of Gimli which became their retreat for many years. They enjoyed having friends and neighbours come by for coffee, a game of horseshoes, cards, crokinole or just to reminisce. Herve also enjoyed playing the guitar and accordion as well as loving to fish and hunt deer or goose. While the boys were young the family enjoyed travelling together across Canada. When the boys were grown, Herve and Martha expanded their travelling to include Arizona, California, Mexico and Las Vegas. Once retired they were able to spend three winter months in Palm Springs for a number of years. Herve will always be remembered for his kind and gentle manner, his smile, quick wit and humour. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and loved forever. Herve was predeceased by his father Jean Baptise Bourgeois (1955), mother Evelyn Bourgeois (1990), stepfather Cyp Rousset (1999), sisters- Theresa and Noella, brothers- Charles, Edward, Norman at infancy. Left to cherish his many fond memories are his beloved wife Martha, sons- Wayne (Michelle), Raymond (Lori), Donald (Karina), grandchildren Reegan and Neal. Also brothers- Ernest (Irene) and Paul (Jackie), sisters-Antonette (Fred) and Lynn, sisters-in-law- Isabel and Lena, brother-in-law John. The family would like to thank the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit and the WHRA staff for the excellent care received. Special thanks as well to Family and Friends whom were there for us in our time of need. Funeral Services will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Saturday, August 24 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Darren Kivialuk officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Holy Family Ukrainian Church Elevator Fund or the Kidney Foundation. • Sad to see you go old friend, Will always cherish the memories of the old working days. I learned a lot from Herve as I got to know what Propane was all about. Herve was one to pull a prank on us boys but occasionally they sometimes backfired on him also. Enjoyed stopping at his cottage from time to time on my deliveries and was always welcomed for the visit. Also enjoyed those brews we had together after work, Rest in peace old friend.
