ARTHUR MAKUS Say not in grief: "He is no more" but live in thankfulness that he was' (Proverbs). Arthur Makus, born in Sarostrow, Polish Volhynia on June 13, 1935 , died in Winnipeg on August 22, 2013 at the age of 78. Arthur is mourned and deeply missed by his wife Lilli; children Ingrid, Wilfred (spouse Maria) and Peter; grandchildren Kira, Megan, Justin and Christopher; sisters Linda, Erna, Erika (spouse Gord); brother Gerry, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents August and Natalia and brother Helmut. Arthur came to Canada in 1949 at the age of 14 with his family, who were displaced during and after the Second World War. They farmed near the Brokenhead River in Manitoba. Everyone who knew Arthur saw that he was an honourable man - someone who was scrupulously honest, who kept his word, and who never failed to treat people with fairness and decency. He lived his life well, loving his family and taking pride in them and the independent lives they made for themselves in Canada. "Good men must die, but death cannot kill their names" (Proverbs). Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 28 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 1:00 p.m. with viewing 30 minutes prior to the service. ARTHUR MAKUS Peacefully, on Thursday, August 22, 2013, with family by his side, Arthur Makus passed away at the Victoria Hospital, at the age of 78 years. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, August 28 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery) at 1:00 p.m. with viewing 30 minutes prior.
