PHYLLIS ESTHER KENNELL (nee SMALE) August 12, 1923 August 19, 2013 She made it!! Phyllis celebrated her 90th birthday on August 12 at her home with her trusty dog Sam and surrounded by her cousins, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbours and good friends. Phyllis was a Manitoba girl, born in Portage la Prairie to parents Elizabeth Anne (Will) and Wilfred James Smale (Chic), who were also born in Portage la Prairie. She was the proud sister of Jean (Irving), Peggy (Lumsden), Jimmy, Donnie, Billy and Glen (Butch) Smale. Phyllis loved her pets, cherished young children, loved her flowers and enjoyed working in her vegetable garden. She enjoyed going to dances when she was younger and was always one of the first on the dance floor. In her later years, Phyllis enjoyed knitting and supplying everyone with her beautiful afghans. She was a proud and determined woman who always found a way to make people laugh. Phyllis embraced raising four children and loved seeing her extended family. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Charles Kennell and son Glen. She will be fondly remembered by her sons Wayne, Don, daughter Sandra and partner Craig Lokstet. She will be missed by her daughters-in-law Sharon, Helen Brown, and Kim. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Jamie, Jennifer and Jason (Riediger), Amanda and Kevin and her great-grandchildren Grayson and Julien (Riediger). Remembered fondly by her cousins and her many nieces and nephews. Phyllis lived at home until her last few weeks before being admitted to the Victoria Hospital. She passed away peacefully a week after her grand celebration. The family would like to thank the doctors, nursing staff and medical care workers on the 5th floor for their professionalism and kindness during her stay under their care. We would also like to thank the many friends and family who took time out of their busy lives to visit our mom in the hospital. Special thanks to Jennifer and her mom Sharon for their special care and to Kevin for being his gramma's guardian angel. A celebration of Phyllis' life will take place next year on August 12. She always worried that when she passed away, the family might not get together for her annual birthday party. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the charity of your choice. Phyllis will be interred next to her husband Charles at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. • Proud to be Auntie Phyliss' niece and have many fond memories. She told me she was going to try her best to make it to her 90th birthday and she was true to her word. Special memories of her apple pies and her beautiful knitting. We will miss that smiling face. Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Marlene Breland nee Kennell (Niece) on: Aug 24, 2013
