D. SCOTT HAMILTON On Thursday, August 22, 2013 Scott Hamilton, dearly loved son, husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away suddenly while on vacation at Victoria Beach, Manitoba. Scott is survived by his mother Doris, wife Susan, daughter Laura (husband Mike, mother Lynn), stepson Justin (wife Saleena), stepdaughter Alexia, brothers Ross and Paul, and their families. He was Grandpa and Papa Scott to Eric, Adam, Zach and Zahra. He will also be missed by Uncle John, Aunt Jean, John and Mo, Kathy and Jim and their children. Scott was predeceased by his father Alan. As an avid sportsman, Scott was proficient at tennis, baseball and golf. He was a highly skilled curler who took his Thunder Bay team to the Brier in the early 1980s. Scott was more than an athlete; he was an intellect, historian, and avid reader. In later years, he took great pleasure in travelling with Susan to many of the places that had piqued his curiosity over the years. Scott was a highly respected trust officer whose 41 year career took him to Thunder Bay, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver. Working for Royal Trust, TD Waterhouse, and the Bank of Montreal he touched the lives of many and formed life-long relationships with colleagues and clients alike. When he retired in 2009, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by joining a challenging golf course in Nanaimo. All year long he could spend his days perfecting his game surrounded by deer, eagles and the backdrop of the ocean. Scott was a kind and gentle man. He saw beauty and simplicity in life; he had room in his heart for everyone. He had a way of making you feel instantly welcomed and liked. You just felt good around him. He will be deeply missed by many and especially by his loyal little companion, Jasper. A memorial service will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). • Scott was the skip of our 1965 Ontario Junior Tankard champion team. He innovated the 1 - 4 scoring system for charting how you curled. We curled without regard to how the other team curled or who you curled against. Pure genius. Pure Scott. - Posted by: Mike Arnot (Friend, fellow curler) on: Sep 03, 2013

  • I just heard of Scott's passing. I first met Scott when he and I were about 14. I remember many fond days playing ping pong in his parent's basement, playing snooker in my parent's basement, playing golf, going to Junior spiels and just having fun. I missed Scott from the first days he moved out west but always knew he was a friend. I hope we have the pleasure to meet again on the great golf course, no matter where you might be. You are a friend. Thank you for gracing our lives. - Posted by: Bob Armstrong (Life long friend) on: Sep 01, 2013

  • Susan, my thoughts are with you and Scott's family at this sad time. Scott has always had a special place in my memories of our days at RT -- it didn't matter where we were, whether Winnipeg, Calgary or a training session somewhere back east -- he brought a calmness to the environment or situation that I always appreciated. I believe that his spirit will live on in the lives of all he has touched and I am grateful to be one of those lives. - Posted by: Kathleen Cunningham (Colleague) on: Aug 28, 2013

  • I met Scott at Royal Trust in Thunder Bay in the 70's and spent a year or so losing at pool to him at Hansen's Pool Hall, He was one of the few natural athletes I have ever met, and could play almost anything with ease. • My deepest sympathy to my dear sister on the passing of Scott- her love, her friend, her companion, her husband, her intellect equal. They were a great mix and it is with profound sadness that he has passed. - Posted by: Jennifer Matthews (sister) on: Aug 27, 2013

  • Scott and I met in 1975 in Thunder Bay. Scott came out to play on our men's slowpitch team and we soon became good friends. His winter sport was curling as was mine. Scott was a major league curler and I was J squad. As a good friend I followed Scott and his teammates to the Ottawa Brier in 1979 and then his Mixed Team to the Canadian Championship in New Brunswick. Thinking about both those trips stirs many memories. I haven't seen Scott for quite a few years. I know he will be missed by his family and many friends. Our prayers are with you all. God bless you Scott. - Posted by: Roy Larson (Good Friend) on: Aug 27, 2013

  • Hi Susan, we have never had the pleasure of meeting you and it has been a number of years since we last saw Hammie at either Laura's wedding or golfing in Calgary. I stil considered him a friend even though we lost track of each other with his work moves. Saying that I am shocked is an understatement. Scott was a great friend, team mate, bridge partner and all round great guy. Both you and he will be in my prayers. It was a pleasure knowing you my friend. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Denis Parsons (Friend, teammate) on: Aug 27, 2013

  • Several years ago Scott and I were out golfing. He had just acquired a custom made 3 wood that he was not particularly happy with - apparently the shaft had too much flex. He suggested that due to my slight stature it might improve my game and offered to sell it to me. After the game we were sitting on my deck, which over-looks the Red River. The subject of the golf club came up again and he offered it to me for $70.00. I countered at $50.00 We settled the matter by agreeing that if he could hit a ball over the river the price was $70.00 and if he couldn't it was $50.00. $70.00 later I owned that club. Not only did he clear the river, which I estimate to be 250 yards, I was expecting to hear the sound of breaking glass from a house or car on Scotia Street. I still have that club and although it has not improved my game it now carries a bit more special meaning. - Posted by: Bill Willms (Firend and colleague) on: Aug 26, 2013

  • It seems like only a short time ago I was swinging a golf club or a baseball bat with Scott, and listening to his valuable advice on the best way to do both. I'm sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Joe Marino () on: Aug 26, 2013

  • Susan our hearts go out to you and the rest of the family, who would have guessed that last month would be the last time we would get to see Scott, play golf with him, and yes tick him off by paying for Supper. We will be unable to attend the service but I will be in Vancouver at the end of October and thought I would come to see you and pay my respects personally.
