DORIS MILDRED LANGMAN -
Date of Passing: Aug 21, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDORIS MILDRED LANGMAN 1927 - 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Doris Mildred Langman. Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep during the morning of August 21, 2013. Mom was born and raised in Hanna, Alberta, second daughter to Junius and Hertha Fish, and tagalong to her beloved sister Helen. We heard many stories of growing up in a small town with a dad as a rail conductor/gold panner. Mom had a beautiful soprano voice. When she was six she wandered across town and asked the church organist to teach her to sing. Later she traveled by bus to Calgary for singing lessons. She sang at many weddings and events, and was part of the chorus in Aida. Music was her first love, and we remember every Sunday listening to Hymn Sing on the TV. Mom and Dad married in 1956, residing in Calgary, Winnipeg and Thompson over the years. The church, and especially the choir, was very important to mom as she adapted to a new place. It was always the corner stone of her new friendships. Mom was a kind and generous person. She was a two time cancer survivor and volunteered with CancerCare and the CNIB. Mom was a woman ahead of her time - very smart and independent. She loved to travel and learn new things. She worked in her 20's to make money to go to Alaska and Europe and she was still travelling up to her mid-eighties. In the last ten years mom and dad have done a major trip every year, and covered almost every continent. Mom has been so encouraging to all of her kids and grandkids over the years. If there was a trip or opportunity for one of us, we were encouraged to go. There is always something to learn. The love and support that both mom and dad have given to their family is incredible. We cannot count the number of times their car has made it to Alberta, singing all the way. They were there for every grandchild's birth, graduation, many birthday celebrations, Christmas, etc. They supported the family in Manitoba and attended every function they could in Domain, often bringing a table full of friends along. And they viewed the adopted Manson clan as true family, loving to hear what the kids were doing. Mom was a special lady who touched so many people's lives. She lived her life with a passion. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and we are so fortunate to have known her. Heaven has gained an extraordinary angel. Lovingly remembered by her husband Gerald; children: John Langman and partner Pam Rasmussen; Brenda and David Frame; Linda and Darryl Manson; and daughter-in-law Gail Langman. Super special grandchildren Kevin, Tom, Janet (Wayne), Scott, Greg, Allison, Janine (Derek), Jeff and Michelle. And of course her first great-granddaughter, Ali. In lieu of flowers, mom has requested that donations be made to The Canadian Cancer Society or The Diabetes Society. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow in the church hall.
