GRANT DOUGLAS BALDWIN On Saturday, August 24, 2013, Grant Douglas Baldwin, at the age of 66 passed peacefully at home after a short but courageous fight with cancer. Grant will forever be in the heart of his loving wife of 40 years, Norma (nee Wellar). He was predeceased by his mother Doreen in 2010 and will be lovingly remembered by his brother Terry and wife Chris of Calgary, sisters Cindy Lewchuk and Debbie Lauzon of Winnipeg, brother-in-law Gord Wellar and wife Roberta of Port Alberni, BC, his two best "buds" Chris and Pat and many nieces and nephews. Grant faced the challenge of this disease the same way he approached life; with unwavering strength, courage and dignity. This man lived his life as an honest, caring and selfless person, lover of dogs, sports and the wonders of nature. He was a gentleman with a gentle soul and a huge heart. His finest legacy is the inspiration that he has provided to all he met. A special thank you to Dr. S. Ahmad, for her care and compassion, and the extraordinary care of the many nurses and doctors in the service of Palliative Care. In keeping with Grant's wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, family and friends may make donations to Grant's favourite charity, the Winnipeg Humane Society, or CancerCare Manitoba. A Fallen Limb A limb has fallen from the family tree I hear a voice that whispers, Grieve not for me' Remember the best times, the laughter, the songs The good I lived while I was strong Continue my heritage, I'm counting on you Keep on smiling, the sun will shine through. My mind is at ease, my soul is at rest Remembering all... how I was truly blessed Continue traditions, no matter how small Go on with your lives, don't stare at the wall I miss you all dearly so keep up your chin Until that fine day we're together again. • To all who have said such kind words thank you. My brother, your husband, your friend i know "wishes you well". Life to Grant meant family, nature, many other friends, and pets. He worked hard for all of us and looking back now, I wish I had some of his many great additudes. We will remember him, darn hard not to. You'll see Grant at every park, bush, stream, river, and hills. A neat guy, filled with so much energy, and a deep respect for all life. There's so much that could be said for such a humanitarian soul but Grant would rather that his passing be simple. In ending Grant's off on a great journey, and all our love. We all have this one thing in common, a great guy with a heart of gold, inside us. Today we pick up our socks and do what Grant would like. Make the world a better place. For all in memory of a kind soul brother Calgary Alberta. - Posted by: Terry Baldwin (Brother) on: Sep 22, 2013

  • To my Big Brother, Nobody could love their brother the way I loved you. I have nothing but good memories and cannot wait for the day we are together again. My sadness is Mom's joy. Give Mom a hug for me. Love your baby sister, Deb - Posted by: Debbie Baldwin Lauzon (Sister) on: Sep 01, 2013

  • You were a good man and will always be remembered with nothing but love. Love Always, Tracy - Posted by: Tracy Lauzon (My Uncle) on: Sep 01, 2013

  • I was so sad to learn of Grant's passing. Norma - we haven't been in touch for quite some time, but my thoughts, prayers and heart are with you! (as are Auntie Eva's) All of the accolades in Grant's write up are so true, but the one that made me smile the most was "lover of dogs"! I have NEVER forgotten Muffin and how special he was to both Grant and you! Grant was a very special man and I am so grateful you brought him into our extended family! Much love xoxoxo - Posted by: Marilyn McClay ("cousin") on: Aug 30, 2013

  • Having a friend the likes of Grant can only be described as a true privilege. This man was not only my brother-in-law but I am proud to say, has been my best friend over some 40 years. A more kind and gentle soul I have not met. This is a man that did not knowingly bring ill, in word or gesture, to any man. He was interesting because he was interested in all things. I suppose he is best described as a student of his environment. I can say that our environment and this planet is a much lesser place without him. We need more Grant Baldwins. They are so few and far apart. His subtle yet constant "goodness" would inspire any man. Farewell my friend - Posted by: Gordon Wellar (Brother in Law) on: Aug 26, 2013

  • It's very sad to have you go ... We will all miss you very much.... I will always celebrate our birthday with laughter ... I'll see you and gramma again someday. - Posted by: Michael John (Nephew ) on: Aug 26, 2013

  • although we just met causally on our street as I passed we became friends, shared our love for small dogs and spoke quite often. Jan and I thought it was nice of you when you shared your dog's food after you lost your dog. I felt so honored when a few weeks ago you shared what was happening to you with me. It was great to have known you and count you as a real friend. - Posted by: Bill Stevens (friend & neighbour) on: Aug 26, 2013

  • I miss you so much my brother. I have so many wonderful memories we had together. You were more than a brother to me Grant. I remember so many things we did together. Fishing, caught my first fish with you. you would make cookies and instead of a dozen cookies you always end up making one as they all ran together, but they were very good and we would laugh. You took me every where when you got your first car, it had a funny little horn and I would always ask you to honk and you always did. I was so blessed to have you as a brother, you could have been anybody's brother, but God gave you as my brother, and I thank God for you. Remember you loved my Shepherd's pie and would ask me to make it for you. And when you started working I would make you lunch and always put a letter for you, saying I Loved you. Bet you hid it so your co workers wouldn't see. I will miss you Grant, you were my father, brother, and friend. I cannot put all our memories here today, I could go on and on, but you were my everything Grant. Good bye Grant till we meet again, I Love you so much you are forever in my heart. - Posted by: Cindy (Sister ) on: Aug 26, 2013
