Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN RITCHIE (nee LENA BERNDT) 1926 - 2013 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Helen Ritchie on Friday, August 23, 2013. Helen was born to Albert and Wonda Berndt at Moosehorn Manitoba, district of New Home. She was survived by her two sons; Grant A. Ritchie and his children Grant C. Ritchie, Arlen, David, Shea and Musette, Craig (Danny) Ritchie and wife Irene, daughter and son-in-law Stacy and Rob Schneidmiller and their two children Kayan and Kera. Helen is also survived by two sisters Esther Richter and Nora Wiens along with numerous nieces and nephews. Helen left home at the age of 14 years to work in Winnipeg where she met and married Daniel Ritchie. They had their first son and then moved to Toronto where a second son was born. In Toronto they worked at numerous jobs and then started their own restaurant business. Later they moved back to Winnipeg and started numerous businesses. Helen had a difficult life but was able to overcome and remain resolute against all trials and tribulations. Helen was predeceased by her husband and parents and five sisters and two brothers; Herta, Ada, Hilda, Antonia, Frieda, Ewald and Adolphe (Hank). Helen loved to travel spend time with her children and grandchildren. She especially loved dancing and music. She was later hospitalized with two debilitating illnesses which curtailed many of her pleasures. Near the end she resided at Riverview Health Centre where she received extremely sincere care and compassion on level CD4. Helen accepted Jesus Christ as her personal saviour and encouraged others to do the same. Helen is free now. A graveside service will take place at Green Acres Cemetery, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 for friends and relatives. In lieu of flowers, donation's in Helen's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.
