MONICA LAWRENCE (nee HOLDEN) After courageously living with pancreatic cancer for two and a half years, Monica Lawrence died on Saturday, August 24, 2013. She lived and died with grace and did everything she could to make her passing easier for her loved ones. Monica was a wonderful sister and aunt, a loyal friend and an accomplished writer. But she was most proud of her successes as a teacher and the feedback she got from the students she inspired. Monica blessed everyone who met her with the gift of laughter, from the clerk at the corner store to the nurses caring for her in her moments of crisis. She will forever be cherished for sharing that gift and for her boundless generosity of spirit. Her family is grateful for the care and support Monica received from the Health Sciences CancerCare Centre. It could not have been better. Special thanks to Denise Klassen for her guidance and sensitivity. Monica is survived by her three sisters Lenna Glade (Peter), Laura Holden and Wanda Hartry (Don), her niece Zoa Hartry (Michael Stronger) and her nephews Shane Hartry (Pamela), Richard Glade and Trevor Glade. A memorial for Monica will be held on Friday, August 30, 2013, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. in Westminster United Church, 745 Westminster Avenue. No flower tributes, thank you. Please donate to a charity of your choice or donate your time to a school or community centre in her honour. Winnipeg Funeral Director, Richard Wojcik of Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 2157 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, in care of arrangements, 204 897 4665, wojciksfuneralchapel.com.

  • I was saddened and shocked to read of Monica's death, my thoughts and prayers are with you Lenna, Laura and Wanda. I remember the great times we had playing hearts and hanging out on Forrest Ave many years ago. Monica was a wonderful, inspirational woman who will never be forgotten. June (Junesky) friend. - Posted by: June (Friend) on: Aug 30, 2013

  • Monica, I love you so much I can't even begin to try to express it in words....your presence in my life inspired me in many ways and I would not be the same person I am today if not for you introducing me to poetry and literature. You always loved my terrible teen poetry (or at least pretended to) and your encouragement, lack of judgement, and pride in my accomplishments will ALWAYS be remembered. LOVE ZOA - Posted by: Zoa (Niece and very close friend) on: Aug 28, 2013

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I was shocked when I read that Monica had passed. I too lost a sister to cancer so I know what emotions you must be feeling at this time. May God bless you and keep you! - Posted by: Theresa ( Kelsch ) Dudeck (school friend) on: Aug 28, 2013
