MARGARET ISABEL KUFUS Ashern's longest living resident of 100 years of age, Margaret Isabel Kufus, passed away at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB on September 5, 2013 surrounded by the love of family. Margaret was born May 16, 1913 in Carman, MB and lived there until the age of 16 when the family moved to Ashern, MB. She met and later married Bill in 1930 and farmed for many years in the Ashern area. Mom worked very hard on the farm; from milking cows, to working in the fields then back to the house to cook, tend to her housework and look after her four children. During threshing, she filled the kitchen with so many different types of food and baking for everyone in the field. She loved to play bingo, play cards and crochet. She made her last table cloth at the age of 99 years. Mom also loved to garden and can the fruits of her labour. It was in her 95th year, that she made her last jars of canned pickles, fruits and vegetables. Mom is survived by her daughter Geraldine Westfall and son Lenny Kufus, both of Ashern, MB, 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, along with her great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She is predeceased by her husband Bill, son Alvin, daughter Mildred, parents Bill and Annie Beaudry, son-in-law Ronald Westfall, daughter-in-law Linda Kufus, granddaughter Caroline, grandson Cameron, brothers Henry, Albert, Clifford, Billy, Georgie, sisters Velma, Evelyn, Aleida, Mabel and Mary. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service honouring her remarkable life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Ashern Centennial Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Lunch will follow in the hall. The family invite their friends and relatives to join them in a gathering to be held at the Kufus family farm immediately following the lunch (please bring a lawn chair). Once everyone has gathered at the farm, we will proceed to the Col Clough Cemetery for the interment then return to the farm. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Rawoof, nurses and staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital for the wonderful care of our Mom. Thanks also to Helen Webster and the Home Care ladies. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service honouring her remarkable life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2013 at the Ashern Centennial Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Lunch will follow in the hall. The family invite their friends and relatives to join them in a gathering to be held at the Kufus family farm immediately following the lunch at the hall.
