RAFFAELE TORCHIA It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dad, Raffaele Torchia on Saturday, September 14, 2013. He will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters, Tara Torchia-Wells (Les), Mia Torchia and Felicia Torchia (Brian Smiley), and his two grandsons Sidney and Griffin. He will be missed by our mother, Suzanne Torchia. He leaves to mourn his partner Gloria Jones. Our dad was born in Amato, Italy where he spent his childhood and teenage years. He was the youngest of nine children. He is predeceased by his parents Raffaele and Serafina Torchia, his siblings Luigi, Francesco, Angelo, Genarro, Angela, and Felicia. He leaves to mourn his sisters Caterina and Maria, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In his teenage years our dad moved to Buenos Aries, Argentina. He held a number of jobs until becoming a Hairstylist. He had many fond memories of his time spent in Argentina. At the age of 26 he moved from Argentina to Winnipeg and continued his profession as a Hairstylist opening a number of salons over the years. He was passionate about going to "the shop" every day and continued to work up until his last days. Once in Canada, he became enamored with Corvettes. He owned many during his life, upgrading every so often to a newer model or a different colour. You could spot him driving his car to work in the summer months, always waving to other Vette owners. His last Corvette was a 1986 cherry red convertible in which he took great pride. Our dad planted a garden every year and it was always beautiful, we could find an abundance of fresh vegetables growing in the summer. He had a great talent for gardening which came naturally as it was passed down to him from his parents in Italy. His garden will continue to grow and flourish in his memory. We will miss our dad so much and will always know his love. He worked hard all his life so that we had everything we needed. We are grateful for the sacrifices he made for his "three girls". We trust he will always know what he means to us and how much love we will forever have for him. A funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home located at 4000 Portage Avenue, on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Private family interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum.
