THOMAS JAMES DAME
Date of Passing: Sep 13, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS JAMES DAME It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas James Dame on September 13, 2013 at the age of 45. He leaves behind to mourn his beloved wife Janet, daughters Casey and Kristen, mother Marie, father Thomas, sister Linda, in-laws Drago and Stefanija Tkalec, brother-in-law Kris and partner Donna, and his Uncle Ron and Aunt Val Desharnais. Tom was born in Toronto, Ontario and lived in Nova Scotia before moving to Winnipeg in 1977. He attended Maples Collegiate and the University of Winnipeg. He moved to Victoria, BC and married Janet in 1991. They moved back to Winnipeg in 1996 and Tom worked in a variety of I.T. positions, most recently with the Province of Manitoba, Ministry of Justice. Tom enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and working on his yard. His whole life had been centered around "his girls". He loved the game of hockey; both watching his daughters play and coaching many teams. He was a volunteer firefighter for the St. Andrews fire department and a member of the Knights of Columbus in St. Theresa's Church. He loved music and played in many bands. He was outgoing, friendly, and always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Although much too short, he lived a full life. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and neighbours. Prayer service and viewing will be on Thursday, September 19, 7:30 p.m. at St. Theresa's Church, 3597 Main Street, West St. Paul. The funeral will be Friday, September 20, 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa's. The interment will be at Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, 4477 Main Street, with a luncheon to follow at St. Theresa's Church. We wish to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, the attending paramedics, and especially Father Jorge. Following Tom's love of sports and children, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Big Brothers and Big Sisters. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111

Tommy played bass for our band Big Crush (Ted Ryplanski/Al Gagliardi) in the early years when our bass player had commitments. He filled the gap with excitement and passion. His love for music and being in a band was electric, only to be topped by the smile. Many great times over the years. i then coached against him in girls hockey, another great passion coaching his daughter. You will be sadly missed, but never forgotten!!! Thanks for the fantastic memories Tommy! deepest sympathy to the family at this time Ken St.Mars and family - Posted by: Ken St.Mars (Friend) on: Sep 20, 2013

Our hearts go out to you Janet, to the girls, to both of your families, and to all of your friends. I got to know Tom from working at MB Highways together and appreciated how supportive he was, especially for an IT guy in an engineering world. Not only did he go out of his way to help us out, he had a great personality - not a usual feature for an IT person. And just a month or so ago, we had been discussing his potential return from Justice. I know many of his former co-workers were shocked to hear the news of Tom's passing, as he left a great impression on all those that he met. I always enjoyed our time together, and when Maria and Janet became friends, we both were looking for more fun times together. We enjoyed the evening last year, when you invited us and Karyl and Jim to join the two of you at your house. We had a great evening, and I know Karyl was planning another night in the next couple of weeks. We'll miss you Tom. You were really one of a kind. Our only regret is that we couldn't have spent more time together. You will be missed. - Posted by: Maria & Lance Vigfusson (Friends and former co-worker) on: Sep 18, 2013

Janet and family, from old friends and colleagues out here in Victoria, our sincere condolences. I walked around 4000 Seymour and shared the sad news to the many who worked or played hockey with Tom. There are many definitions of "life" out there and I prefer "life is a collection of memories". That said, the memory of Tom I remain fond of is when a puck found its way into the net off his nose. Naturally after the shock and ribbing he took of getting hit in the snout he quickly commented on how it was "directed in" a demonstration of his untapped talent. - Posted by: Tim Gagne (old-friend) on: Sep 18, 2013

I immensely enjoyed my friendship and work with Tom in Victoria BC. After he moved back to Winterpeg, I saw occasional emails and hunting photos etc -- he was still a part of my life. Even after years, he still comes up in conversation with friends - usually involving some improbable (but true) escapade he got up to (usually involving his partner in crime Richard Stokes!) Tom's joy for life was inspiring...such a good heart. What you saw was what you got with Tom. He is greatly missed by many of us in Victoria. Janet always seemed one of the best wives a guy could have, and I envied Tom such a patient and understanding wife. And we all know, Tom was such a playful and mischievous guy, he needed an understanding wife! My heart goes out to Janet and the kids. My deepest condolences to Janet, Casey, Kristen and family. I will always think of Tom with great admiration. I have never had the opportunity to meet you however I can tell you that Tom spoke of you, his three girls, with such love and excitement, with that sparkle in his eye. We met thru work and quickly discovered our many similarities, two girls each who we loved to watch and coach (two Caseys even), a deep love of music, fishing and the outdoors. We connected immediately. We were to have lunch together two weeks ago and had to cancel, which I will forever be sorry for. I only wish we had spent more time together. I will miss him. - Posted by: Harvey Downes (friend, co-worker, fellow music and nature lover) on: Sep 17, 2013
