Was saddened to read the obituary in Saturday's wpg free press. Steve was our neighbour for many years and we often spent hours sharing stories and concerns. My parents enjoyed spending time with him and always felt safe knowing that he was our neighbourhood protector. Our little block on Lansdowne Ave was composed of people who had lived in their houses for many many years and we all looked after each other because we were like an extended family. Steve was part of this great neighbourhood and we all liked him a lot. We will all miss him. May he rest in eternal peace. Vichnaya pamyat!! Thanks for all the good memories, birthday cards, Easter cards and Christmas cards. They were always so special and personalized with a sincere greeting!! - Posted by: Martha Shepertycky (Neighbour and friend) on: Oct 06, 2013

We will always treasure great memories of Stephen and our terrific times together. So many wonderful reflections of a family friend and Godfather to Peter & Tatiana... Stephen was a gifted artist, a devoted family man, a philanthropist, a long-standing career with the Winnipeg Police Service, a cultured man of many interests...and with that, Stephen will continue to live within our hearts, in our thoughts and in our prayers. We were very saddened to hear about the passing of our good friend Stephen at such a young age. Only he and God knows how much he suffered, yet didn't complain. Stephen you will be missed. The world was privileged to have you as a philanthropist, an accomplished artist, an officer of the peace, a community supporter at the highest levels, a loving and caring son, and above all one who supported your friends. We will make sure you are not forgotten and do our best to live for the benefit of others as you did. As ever my good friend. Dwaine - Posted by: Dwaine King (Friend) on: Sep 22, 2013

I knew Stephen when we were both in high school at Sisler many years ago. I will always remember him as a 'Gentle Giant'-- a young man with a soft voice and kind heart AND the most amazing artistic talent!! My sincerest condolences to all the Mical family members and relatives at this time of sadness and sorrow. 'May the Earth rest lightly upon him'. -- African Proverb-- Carole A.H. We were so saddened to hear of Stephen's passing. Although we had all only reconnected after our mothers were placed in the same care facility, it was wonderful to see him. Stephen was a wonderful person and very easy to talk to. He had many a great story to tell or joke to share about his Ukrainian heritage (which he was proud of) or his days on the police force. Stephen was an amazing artist, and gladly gifted us with some of his works. But most of all, Stephen was a loving and devoted son, visiting his mother daily. We will miss seeing him and sharing in our daily lives. RIP Stephen xoxoxo - Posted by: Vera, Lily and Lesia Truchan (Friends) on: Sep 21, 2013

After an absence of many years, Stephen and I got reacquainted on my visits to my mother at St. Joseph's. Stephen would be visiting his mother when we would bump into each other and then have extended chats about life in general and reminiscences. I live in Toronto so when I visit my mother, I visit every day and see Stephen, who also visited his mother often. I will miss bumping into him and sharing life's stories.
