ALLISON JOY FILMON CARVEY June 18, 1964 - September 25, 2013 With hearts full of love, and heavy sadness, our beautiful earthly angel left us yesterday, knowing she was loved, and surrounded by love after a courageous journey with melanoma. Allison is survived by her husband, Tony, daughters' Alexandra (Lexie) and Aimee; her parents Gary and Janice Filmon; brothers David (Catherine-Spencer, Stefanie and Jack); Gregg (Leanna- Adam, Emma, Josh and Brady), and sister Susanna; her mother-in law Jean Carvey, brother-in law Jim Carvey (Kay-Taylor, Brian and Roger); sister-in law Sandy Johnson (Jim-Drew and Devon). Allison was born in Winnipeg, attended public schools and graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1986 in the Faculty of Education. Her choice of profession took her to California, British Columbia and Winnipeg where she taught elementary school. She was a passionate teacher, a light, an inspiration, a mentor, who loved all peoples' children. She has made a difference that will be reflected in the students she taught for years to come. Beauty can be seen on the outside, but her inner beauty was also experienced by those who knew her. She had character, articulated values, depth, integrity, curiosity, a mental toughness, and a soft manner. Her smile was a trademark, and lit up whatever space she was in. Above all, she had a great capacity to love. Speaking of love, Allison's story cannot be told without Tony's- her rock, her life partner. It was a real life love story, which has left an indelible imprint on their daughters Lexie and Aimee, and on family and friends. Allison's incredible love for her husband was only matched by the love she had for Lexie and Aimee. She will live on in them. The family expresses sincere thanks to Drs. Ralph Wong, G. Schroeder, D. Fewer, E. McIntosh, and Dr. L Tan and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba for their care and concern throughout her illness. We are grateful for the support of the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care Section whose efforts allowed Allison to spend her last days in the comfort of her home. Heartfelt appreciation is extended to Sandra Directo, her home care provider, for her love and support. Many friends walked the journey beside Allison and her family. You know who you are please accept our sincere gratitude. A celebration of Allison's life will take place Monday, September 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Temple, 440 Hargrave Street. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, or to the Allison Filmon Carvey Scholarship Fund in Education at the University of Manitoba. In love she will be remembered. In memory she will live. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200 NEILBARDALINC.COM

I had Mrs. Filmon-Carvey for grade 1 back in 2001. I remember that she had a passion for teaching. She only did half days because her younger daughter was still in preschool. She always talked about her daughters. I just recently found out she passed when I went back to my elementary school and a teacher I know mentioned it. - Posted by: Former student () on: Feb 16, 2019

I'm so sad to hear about Ms. Filmon's passing today. I was her student (5th grade) at Dos Palos Elementary in Dos Palos, CA. I've always remembered when she will read us a story, she will get so animated. She taught us about her native Canada and how to speak French. To this day, I speak a little French. Little did she know, she help built my confidence in my studies. My heart felt sympathies to the Filmon and Carvey families. - Posted by: Lolita Garcia (Former student) on: Feb 07, 2016

What a beautiful, loving soul. Allison taught our daughter, Amanda, Grade 1, many years ago. Allison was a great inspiration. We still speak of how she taught from the heart, both in class and out and about. We knew she was ill, but just learned of her passing today. We feel such sadness. God bless Allison and her lovely family. Peace. - Posted by: Christine and Steven Nagy (Parent of a former student) on: Nov 19, 2014

Gary and Janice - For years your family has inspired so many in life. Sad to see a loss so young; but I attended the funeral, and in hearing the ongoing tribute to Allison, could not help but see your children and now grandchildren continue that inspiration. My parents Harold and Maxine would feel this same way. Condolences from the heart. - Posted by: Randy Clark (Family acquaintance since the 70's) on: Oct 11, 2013

When we first moved to Ridgedale, the Filmons were such gracious neighbours. Janice had a luncheon to welcome me to the neighbourhood. My son, Mark and Suzanne became good friends at that time--around 6 years of age. Alison would likely have been about 17 at the time. We always admired the wonderful family and their enthusiasm for life. My husband and I lost his daughter and my stepdaughter, Kyla 3 years ago and we know what a huge loss and heartache this is. Our condolences go out to all of you. - Posted by: Carol Tomes (Howe) (Former neighbour from Ridgedale) on: Oct 02, 2013

Dearest Tony, Alexandra, Aimee & Filmon Family ..... after spending our formative & fun years in Winnipeg, coincidentally we left Winnipeg the same day in August 1986; Allison for California (& eventually to meet her soulmate Tony) & us to Vancouver, BC, only to be reunited when Allison & Tony moved to Vancouver early 1990's. We again had wonderful years together where we all started our families and enjoyed this new stage in our lives. The times with Allison & Tony were memorable and joyful, with Allison instilling her joy and love to everyone around! We are truly blessed to have shared those wonderful years together & know she has found comfort in God's arms. Our love & prayers are with you all. xoxoxoxo - Posted by: Violet & Steve Frost (Friends ) on: Sep 30, 2013

As a friend and co-worker of Susanna's, I heard all about Allison, how she was so strong, brave, and a rock for her family. Although I didn't know her personally I grew to know her through wonderful stories Susanna told me. In past the few days I came to a realization I had Tony Carvey as a ninth Grade teacher at General Byng school. Mr. Carvey I am so very sorry for your loss. You are a wonderful human and teacher, I will never forget you (you let us watch Bill Nye during class). As the wonderful person you are you were gifted with a wonderful woman to share your life with and beautiful children. Let her memory be the comfort in this time of loss. I will be thinking of you and your family. What a beautiful woman inside and out, Love to all. - Posted by: Jessica Bennett (Friend of extended Family) on: Sep 29, 2013

To my dearest friends Janice and Gary, My grandparents gave me the terrible news of Allison's passing. These are the times when I wish I didn't live so far away. I wish I could be there to comfort you and give you a hug and let you know how much we love you...just like you always did for us. No one deserves to pass away early, but I do know that Jesus has a very special place for people like Allison. It gives me comfort knowing she will be in Heaven taking care of all of the children who have left this world too early. Fortunately she is no longer suffering in pain, but that only leaves her loved ones here to deal with the pain of losing her. May her legacy live on forever and I pray for peace over all of her loved ones. - Posted by: Shannon Ajibesin (nee Bracken) (Manitoba ALIVE Alumni) on: Sep 28, 2013
