IRMA L. EDINBOROUGH (nee DUFFEY) 1922 - 2013 Irma's family is sad to announce her passing on September 21, 2013. Her beloved husband George predeceased her in 2003. A little light went out in Irma when George died, but she carried on for the rest of us the best she could. Irma is survived by her daughter Heather Edinborough and Heather's husband, Wayne Duncan, grandson Paul Cooper and his wife Anne Turner, and much loved great-grandson Declan Cooper. Also by her son Rob Edinborough and granddaughter Erica Edinborough. She has many nieces and nephews, as well as two surviving sisters-in-law, Fran Duffey and Elva Bayn (Wally). Irma was always interested in all of us and made sure to ask about everyone we visited, including Wayne's daughter Brittney in whose life she maintained an interest. Irma was the youngest of James and Isabel Duffey's three children and grew up on the Duffey farm near Oak Bank, Manitoba. Her brother, Bob Duffey and sister, Ethel Coakes predeceased her. She attended teacher training in Winnipeg in 1940 and went on to teach at many schools where she educated hundreds of young people. She loved to tell her favourite stories about some of the many students who made an impact on her. She married George in 1946 and together they made a long and productive life together, for a short while in Baldur, and then in Winnipeg. The family is so grateful to the many excellent staff at Meadowood Manor Personal Care Home who cared for Irma for the past three and a half years. Irma always told Heather that she had "found a good place" for her at Meadowood and we thank you for all you did for our mom and grandmother. Thanks also for the compassionate care she received from Victoria Hospital staff on the 5th floor for that one long week following her stroke. A funeral service will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue on Monday, September 30 at 10:00 a.m. We extend our gratitude to Pastor Dave Holland for the blessing of a Christian burial which Irma so dearly wanted. Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • Irma was friend with a quick wit and a mischievious twinkle in her eye. We taught together at Principal Sparling. Young at heart and fondly remembered. - Posted by: Jack Richard King (Colleage friend) on: Oct 30, 2022

  • My husband asked me yesterday who was the best teacher I ever had and I immediately said Mrs Edinborough, my sixth grade teacher at Principal Sparling School. She was stern, but encouraged every child to meet their full potential. She always made me feel That I could do more, not only academically, but also by serving others. Thank you Mrs. Edinborough. Rest In Peace - Posted by: Maria Hall (Student) on: Apr 24, 2022

  • I was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Edinborough as my teacher in grade 3 and half of grade 4 at Mulvey School. I loved her! She was an excellent teacher! For a kid that didn't like school, she made a positive impact on me. My deepest sympathy for your family's loss. Sincerely, Wendy Thurston-Werry (nee Thurston) - Posted by: Wendy Thurston-Werry (student) on: Sep 30, 2013

  • Heather's eulogy captures the essence of Aunty Irma. She was a true educator; not simply in the classroom but in terms of living life. She encouraged all of us to make the best of what we were given, and to develop the wisdom to know when to hold on, and when to let go. She is a very special woman and will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all of us. - Posted by: Barbie (Niece) on: Sep 29, 2013
