AMELIA (MILLIE) MEDERSKI It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of our beloved mother (widow of William), grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend on September 23, 2013 at the Luther Home. Predeceased by her beloved husband William of 47 years on January 23, 1997 and her parents, John (1972) and Anelie (1993) Fritz. She leaves to cherish her memories, daughters Diane Wisniewski (Rick Valcourt) of Winnipeg and Lynda (Glen) Nissen of Oakville, Manitoba; her beloved granddaughters, Alexis Wisniewski (fiancé Donald Connors) and Ashton Moore and her grandsons, Garrett Wisniewski and Carter Moore; and her brother, Dr. John O. Fritz (Josephien) of South Surrey, BC. Also surviving are her sisters-in-law, Wanda Retzlaff of Elgin, Texas, and Valera Sue Trist of Surrey, BC; her brother-in-law, Charles (Joyce) Mederski and many nieces, nephews and relatives in Canada, U.S.A. and Germany. Millie immigrated to Winnipeg at three years of age, along with her mother and brother in May 1930 to join her father who immigrated a year earlier. In September 1933, she registered at Strathcona Elementary School and on September 1939, she attended William Whyte Junior High School and graduated with honors from Isaac Newton High School in June 1945. Millie was employed by the Winnipeg School Division No. 1 since 1947 and retired in June 1991. She was a long-standing member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church on Manitoba Avenue and Arlington Street. She spent many summers enjoying cottage life at Twin Lakes Beach, relaxing with her children, and later with her grandchildren, along with the many friends that she and dad had at the lake. She was immensely proud of her family and especially her grandchildren and enjoyed cooking for them, preparing pots of her renowned soups, spaghetti suppers and Christmas baking treats. Cremation has taken place with a private graveside service for family at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Our family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Misericordia Interim Long Term Care on Cornish 6, as well as the many staff at Luther Home who provided our mom with their wonderful care and made her feel as comfortable as possible. Flowers are gratefully declined and donations in mom's memory may be made to The CancerCare Manitoba Foundation Inc. or to a charity of choice. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I am very sorry to hear of Mrs. Mederski's passing, (yes, I still call her "Mrs. Mederski".) I have wonderful memories of her as a child and teen, her cheerful smile when I came to visit Lynda on Armstrong Avenue, her voice ringing out, "Babs!" I know she is now resting peacefully. She has done her life's work well. My thoughts and prayers are with Diane, Lynda and their families. - Posted by: Barb Kresowaty (nee Popoff) (friend of daughter, Lynda) on: Sep 28, 2013
