CHRIS FINNBOGASON
Date of Passing: Sep 26, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHRIS FINNBOGASON On September 26, after 85 years of a life well-lived and filled with the love of family and friends, Chris passed away at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. Chris is survived by the love of his life and constant companion, Elaine. He will be missed by his children David (Cathy), Lizann (Jim) and Janet (Dean), and by his grandchildren Mark, Claire, Derek, Karen, Sara, Erich, Nicole, Thomas, and Kylie. He also leaves his brother Alan (Marguerite), many nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends. Dad was a man with an outstanding sense of humour and a love of family and music. A loyal supporter of the Arts in Winnipeg, he was a past president of the Manitoba Opera Association, and he served on the board of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. He was a long standing member of Westminster United Church and he continued to serve until his passing. Born in 1928 to Olafia and Guttormur Finnbogason, Dad was the spoiled younger brother to Paul, Tom, Alan and Bill. He grew up in Lundar and in Winnipeg where he attended Daniel MacIntyre Collegiate and the University of Manitoba. Elaine and Chris married in 1956 and enjoyed a life filled with friends, family and experiences. Trips to Hawaii, summers at Mackies Island, raising three kids and watching their grandchildren grow filled Elaine and Chris's lives with joy. Chris grew up as part of a very close-knit family and he brought that gift to his own. He not only loved his children and grandchildren, but he truly knew them as well. He was proud of each and every one of us and he never hesitated to tell us so. He was also a stubborn Icelander who felt he really knew the best way to do most things and he didn't give up easily. A shoulder shrug and a hand flip made it clear that he didn't agree. We saw that a lot this past week. His work allowed him to make many friends, some of whom he continued to meet for coffee up until last month. We would like to thank Dr. David Breckman for his tremendous care and support for Dad over the years; Dr. Pat Harris for guiding us through the past few months, the amazing staff at the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit and the very patient staff at the Pancake House. A service to celebrate Chris's life will take place at 1:00 p.m. on October 2, at Westminster United Church, 745 Westminster Ave. Chris's humour, his generosity, his willingness to open his home to all and his "Cricky Eggs" will be missed. goda nott elskan Arrangements are in the care of Neil Bardal Funeral Centre 204-949-2200

We were saddened to learn of the passing of dear friend Chris. Despite many decades of being thousands of miles apart, we maintained regular contact and friendship with the Finnbogasons. When we were last in Winnipeg, Elaine and Chris came in from Mackies Island and we spent three days together. We agreed at the time that it was a most enjoyable and memorable three days, with morning ritual of juice, coffee and the morning papers, followed by nostalgic discussions, and finally excursions around the city catching us up on all the many changes. Our Love and condolences go to Elaine and the family. - Posted by: Jane and Kirk Osterland (long term friends) on: Oct 01, 2013
