• I will miss my mom. She was my hero, mentor, inspiration and an incredible woman. She handled herself with honour, dignity, high moral values and wisdom. She gave me 3 incredible opportunities. First, she gave me life on that Christmas morning in Calgary. Granted, both of us missed the huge party that day when my brothers threw a party for the neighbourhood with the entire food mom left for them. (Two week’s worth gone in a day!) Spending that time with her instead was priceless. Second, she gave me a chance to get to know and love my wonderful family. Dad, Ron, Rodger, Carolyn and Cathy, who also all played a role in raising me. Everything from teaching me how to catch a ball, change spark plugs and tires, play the guitar, drive a car / snowmobile, to how to dance for my first school dance. And lastly, even though it took over 50 years, I was able to meet my soul mate, Lori, and together, a wish came true, and we had a miracle baby, a new grandson, Alexander Robert Alfred Rickey. Even though her communication skills were already faltering, her face didn’t lie. Mom was able to meet Lori and Alex, and she just lit up when we all came to visit. Mom just knew.
