Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN P. (JACK) WHITLAW, F.I.C.B. 1929 - 2013 Jack died peacefully on October 3, 2013 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care. He is survived by his wife Georgina, his brother Robert, and his family, the family of his late brother Richard, and nieces and nephews in Ontario, Michigan and Ohio and his three godchildren in Alberta and Ontario. Jack was born the eldest son of John Alexander and Francis Ruth (Boles) in Deloraine, MB, where he was raised and educated. He joined the Toronto Dominion Bank (Now the TD Canada Trust) retiring after 40 years of service. After retirement, he and Georgina indulged their passion for travel. Jack believed in contributing to the communities in which he lived and willingly sat on many boards. He was a life member of Lions International, Past President of St. James Lions Club and a Melvin Jones recipient. Always a sports fan, he enjoyed curling, golfing, and baseball. Jack was an avid Yankee and Goldeyes fan. Jack did not journey with his A.L.S. alone. He was surrounded by the love of friends and family, and you know who you are. Thank you. Jack has been the beneficiary of outstanding care from his home care team, the A.L.S. group, together with the palliative care doctors and nurses both in the community and in hospital. This care allowed Jack to remain at home until shortly before his death. Jack was always a gentleman, and a gentle man and his presence will be missed. Interment has taken place and the Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 9 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3K 1W3. Flowers are gratefully declined and if one wishes, donations in his memory may be made to the A.L.S. Jack & Georgie were great neighbors on Barker Blvd for many years. I would often be on the front lawn watering flowers and Jack's big smile would draw me across the street for a chat. He always had time to ask how you were, tell a story, and make your day a bit brighter. We miss them on our street and join all friends & acquaintances in extending our condolences. - Posted by: Linda & Robert Ferens (neighbor) on: Oct 08, 2013

Like Jimmy, I regarded Jack as a kind, gentle, sweet man with a wicked sense of humour. He always seemed to be smiling and I know he bore his illness bravely and did not complain. He will be missed so very much. Georgina, our deep and sincere sympathy. - Posted by: Shirley Allan (sister-in-law) on: Oct 08, 2013
