Born: Jun 20, 1933
Date of Passing: Oct 04, 2013
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ROBERT SLEVA June 20,1933 - October 4, 2013 It is with immense sadness, we announce the passing of our gentle, beloved and respected husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, John Sleva, at the age of 80. John will be extremely missed. To carry his legacy are his three sons Sam, Ken and Rick. John was very proud of his seven grandchildren, Robin, Justin, Brittnay, Tyler, Josh, Wesley and Kyle, whom he loved with all his heart. With no daughters himself, Johnny was fortunate to have four loving daughters-in-law, Irene, Tracy A, Tracy, and Susan. He also leaves to cherish his memory, brothers Walter, Benny and sister Clara, along with numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Born in Stead, MB, he had a twin who did not survive at birth. John was one of 10 children. He loved his time spent at the family farm. He loved life. His biggest love and true soulmate was his wife Sonja whom made him whole. We now know his heart is full again. Johnny was a pioneer in the world of construction and all three of his boys followed in his footsteps. His greatest passion outside of Mom and family was socializing. A fishing rod or golf club and the warmth of the sun beating down on him, always put a smile on his face. He enjoyed playing cards, T.V. and going to a casino which gave him an excitement like no other. Our father believed when he passed on he would be reunited with his one and only true love, Mom. This was a journey he was so looking forward to take. We are sure their love will now take them to eternity. A celebration of John's life will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. Burial will be at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Gull Lake approximately 2:00 p.m. Dad, you will always be in our hearts. The beginning of us, is You. We will never forget. We will love and miss you forever. GOD BLESS In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation. Dear Sam, Ken & Rick and families- The memories I have of your dad and mom in Vancouver and many summers in Winnipeg at the homestead will never be forgotten. Both very special, generous, warm and wise people. Open arms, great big hugs and genuine smiles are how I remember them. I remember the kitchen table conversations and story telling as a hearty meal was being prepared in B.C. My heartfelt condolences at this time. Cherish the memories. - Posted by: Sharon Sleva (Niece ) on: Oct 15, 2013

To Ken, Rick, Sam and families...and Auntie Clara, Uncle Walter, and Uncle Ben, I send my deepest heartfelt wishes for peace on angels' wings. Blessings to all. Dearest Sam, Ken, Rick and families. It's so hard to believe your dad is no longer with us. In body he has left us but in spirit and memories I know he lives on in all of our lives. I will be forever grateful to Uncle John for the role he (and Auntie Sonja) played in my life, opening the doors to their home when the doors in my life were closing. May we all find happy memories to smile at! - Posted by: Deb (cousin) on: Oct 10, 2013

Ken, Irene and family: Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with all of you. We will always remember our Uncle Johnny as a truly kind and compassionate soul. He was an important part of the lives of many nieces and nephews as we were growing up, having our families, and growing older with him. The close relationships he had with so many of his family members is a testament to the wonderful person we all loved. He will be sadly missed. We look forward to celebrating his unique life with all of the family on Saturday. He is now in good company and finally at peace. God bless. - Posted by: Ted, Pat and Julia Johnston (niece and nephew) on: Oct 08, 2013
