Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOTTO OSCAR EHMANN September 16, 1928 - October 5, 2013 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Otto Oscar Ehmann on October 5, 2013, at the age of 85 years. Dad passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital after courageously and valiantly battling illness over the course of almost the past year. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter Doris, his brothers Edmund and Emil, along with extended family and many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Herta (2011), his brothers Arthur and Robert, his sisters Olga, Elsie and Frieda and his parents Adolf and Martha. Dad was born in Hagelshein, Poland of German parents. After being forced out of his homeland by the war, he immigrated to Canada from Germany in 1952. He was joined by his fiancée, Herta in 1953. They married and made their home in Winnipeg where together they raised their daughter Doris with tender and loving hearts. Upon his arrival in Winnipeg, Dad worked as an upholsterer starting out in the shipping and receiving department and moving up to upholstery at Globerman Bros. / GIII Ltd., where he worked for over 33 years. Upon the closure of the business, he then worked for Art Upholstery until his retirement in June 1991. Dad loved the outdoors, especially tending to his vegetable and flower gardens, apple trees and enjoyed many pastimes at the cottage in Petersfield. He enjoyed family camping vacations and travels to Europe, Florida, Hawaii, Mexico and Cuba. Dad had a strong faith and was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church for over 53 years. Dad was an extremely strong and courageous individual. He had an insurmountable will to keep fighting against all odds without ever any complaint. He had a contagious sense of humour and zest for life. Dad leaves us with a legacy of incredible strength, dignity, integrity, humility and so much wisdom. We love you and will miss you deeply, but know that you will never be forgotten. We are eternally grateful to Dr. John Lee who was with and believed in Dad every step of the way during his illness this past year. We also thank all of the staff in both the St. Boniface CR4 and ICU units for all of the care they provided to Dad. Funeral and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Engel officiating, at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment and reception will follow. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation or St. John's Lutheran Church.
