MARTHA EMMA BRUCK (nee TATZ) It is with great sadness that we say farewell to our mother and grandmother who passed away peacefully on October 13, 2013, at the age of 91 at West Park Manor Personal Care Home, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Martha was predeceased by her loving husband Carl and is survived by her son Manfred (April), daughter Judy (Rick), son Norbert (Heather), granddaughter Kristen, and grandsons Evan, Kyle and Jamie. Martha is also survived by her sisters Hanna Kuck and Ursula Schackel (Hans Hermann) in Germany. Martha was born June 17, 1922, in Karzen, the district of Strehlen, in the province of Silesia in Germany to Friedrich and Martha Tatz. She held various domestic positions including employment at a hospital, a grand hotel and eventually for the Baron of Richthofen in the castle Schloss Heidersdorf in the district of Reichenbach. In 1945, Martha fled the country through Czechoslovakia to Austria. Eventually she was transported with hundreds of refugees by train to a refugee camp in Bietigheim, Germany and then to Walheim. This is where she met Carl and they married in Bietigheim on September 2, 1950. They immigrated to Canada on April 20, 1951 and settled in Manitoba, eventually making Winnipeg their home. Martha became a proud Canadian citizen on January 30, 1957, and while raising three children and working part time, she made a loving home for her family. She enjoyed gatherings with family and friends and loved gardening and puttering in the yard. Her bubbly personality and warm smile was infectious and raised the spirits of all who knew her. We will miss the guidance, support and, most of all, the love you gave to us, Mutti. Heartfelt thanks to all the staff at West Park Manor who gave Martha such wonderful care during her stay and especially in her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral services to be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Avenue on Sunday, October 27 at 10:00 a.m. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. www.chapellawn.ca 885-9715
