ANNE CAMPIGOTTO (nee MOSPAN) January 12, 1917 - October 20, 2013 It is with deep sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Anne Campigotto at the age of 96 years young, October, 20, 2013 at Ottawa, Ontario. We surrender her into the arms of waiting angels, where she will join those who have gone before her and await those to follow. Predeceased by her loving husband Richard Anthony, August 1, 1991, parents Anna and Sam Mospan, brothers Mike, Bill, Alex, John, George, Frank and sisters Pauline Klutz, Pearl Cherniak and Mary Cherneky. Anne will live through her daughter Angela Snowdon (Norman) and grandson Andrew Snowdon; great-grandson Morgan, great-granddaughters Anastasia and Athena of Ottawa, Ontario; daughter Virginia Browning of Richmond, BC, grandson Sean Browning (Shannon); great-grandsons Evan, Hayden, Alex and Liam, of Evansville, Indiana, U.S.A. She leaves to mourn her, her dearest friend and niece Ann Stasiuk (predeceased by Walter) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, niece Rose Marsh (predeceased by Ray) of St. Xavier, Manitoba and devoted friends Rosa (predeceased by Sergio who was like a son to her) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; many nieces, nephews, friends and associates. Anne was born January 12, 1917 at Okno, Manitoba. At 12 years old, she went into service working for Icelandic families in Riverton and Jewish and English families in Winnipeg. It was here that she developed her culinary skills and learned to speak Icelandic, and understand Hebrew and Yiddish in addition to speaking Ukrainian and English. At 12 years old, Anne was responsible for the complete household including the children and paying the bills. Her hard-earned meagre paycheques were sent home to help her family on the farm. Anne was not only a beautiful person on the outside but on the inside as well. She had a smile that could melt ice and her laugh could fill a room with happiness. She could put those half her age to shame with her attention to exercise which she did religiously for one hour every morning right up until her early nineties. She was a trained, certified dressmaker and designer who paid attention to couturier detail. She worked for 25 years with pride for the T. Eaton Company in Winnipeg, both downtown and at the Polo Park stores as a manageress in Food Services. If you needed help, she was the first one there to help, she was dependable and calm in a crisis. She gave unselfishly of her time, energy and kindness, asking nothing in return. She is truly an example to follow. At 75 years old, Anne joined the Admitting Department at the Health Sciences Centre where she volunteered tirelessly, still helping others. By 2001, she had put in over 3000 hours and was still getting up at 4:00 a.m. and volunteered from 6:00 to 12:00 noon and walked 10 miles over two days, weekly, taking patients to their appointments and rooms. She and her daughter Angela travelled throughout Europe, Mexico and the Western seaboard of Canada and the US. She loved to travel. She remembered details that no one else could. She was the best travel companion. She loved to garden and could be seen every year putting in and taking out her garden, carrying plants as tall as she was up and down the steps from inside the house where they had been nurtured over the winter. And then back in again in the fall. Her love of flowers and gardening was passed on to her daughters. She was a dynamite cook who prepared many ethnic dishes including Italian and Ukrainian. She used to love to entertain and the smells from her kitchen could have you drooling a block away. Last but not least, she was a devoted wife and patient, loving mother who practiced unconditional love. She was a lady! She was a wonderful human being and her memory will live on and be treasured. Viewing will take place on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Parish, 510 River Ave. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. with Father Sam Argenziano. Entombment to follow at Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum at 3990 Portage Ave. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you buy one rose and give it to someone you love, in Anne's memory.
