RICHARD (KEN) SMITH With family at his side, Ken passed away on Monday, October 21, 2013 at the Grace Hospital. He is survived by his loving wife Lil of 50 years, his son Rick (Sylvia), daughter Kenda (Kent), grandchildren Warren, Koldyn, Rachel, four brothers, three sisters and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Richard and Olga Smith. Ken was born on June 1, 1941 in Central Butte, SK. He moved to Moose Jaw in 1959 where he began working in the financial service industry. In 1970, Ken and Lil moved to Winnipeg where they raised their family. Ken continued working in the Credit Union System and retired from Assiniboine Credit Union in 1993 after a 37 year career. Ken loved being around family and friends. He was a great outdoorsman and enjoyed camping. Ken had a special talent for designing and building. He brought many of his visions to life from small woodworking projects to building their cottage. Ken was also actively involved in the community. He was an avid reader and enjoyed a good western. The family wishes to extend thanks to the Grace Hospital staff for the wonderful care and compassion for Ken and his family in his final days. In addition, Ken received exceptional care from many healthcare professionals, which contributed to his well-being. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. James Lutheran Church, 871 Cavalier Drive, Winnipeg, MB with reception to follow. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private interment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association or the Canadian Diabetes Association.
