JOHN (HOWARD) FARRELL March 27, 1919 October 17, 2013 John Howard Farrell was born March 27, 1919 to Beatrice and James Farrell in Toronto, Ontario where he started off his life. He had to promptly put things on hold when the calling came. He voluntarily enlisted with the Irish regiment and spent the majority of the Second World War in Italy. After the war he met a woman by the name of Mary Walkin in Toronto, Ontario who had worked at a war plant (Dominion Bridge) during the war making 25 pounder shell casings. Mary was then working at a bus terminal. They fell in love and were married October 19, 1946. The two settled down to the task of buying a house and raising a family. Howard (the name he went by at home and John at work) spent the majority of his working years working for the City of Toronto as a Foreman on the Roads Department (CUPE). He packed in his career early and semi retired in Gimli, Manitoba close to Fraserwood where Mary was born. Howard enjoyed looking after the garden and the yard; he took pride in the lawn. He will be sadly missed by his wife Mary, son Bruce and friends. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Lindenschmit Sr., the staff at the Selkirk General Hospital, Eriksdale Hospital, Tudor house and the Gimli Hospital for their caring and compassion. Thanks for your belief in a better world, the time spent together and being a good husband/ father/friend. Love Mary and Bruce Funeral service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 25, 2013 at St. Bartholomew Anglican Church, 291 Churchill Road, Winnipeg Beach, Manitoba.
