VERNA PAULINE GRIFFITHS (nee MILLER) It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother who passed away peacefully at the age of 90 on Sunday, October 20, 2013. Mom was predeceased by husband Robert (Bob), mother and father, Jim and Elsie Miller, brothers, Allan and Harry and sister Reta. Left to remember are sons Jim (Lorraine), Derrick (Carolyn), beloved granddaughters, Jennifer and Michelle and Roger (Debbie). Mom was born May 29, 1923 at Carberry, MB. When Mom was quite young the family moved to Regina, SK where they remained for all of Mom's schooling years. In 1940, the family moved to Neepawa, MB and in 1942, Mom moved to Winnipeg. Here, she worked for MacDonald's Tobacco as a secretary. It was here she was courted by dad and they married October 6, 1945. Mom and dad lived in the North End until 1961 when they moved to the suburbs, North Kildonan, where she has lived ever since. Mom was proud of her home and all of her family She took the best of care of us. Mom enjoyed her knitting and sewing, but she was best known for her knitting and the sweaters she made for us all. Mom was a great cook and baker and had to work hard to keep us boys in cookies. Mom was a long time member of Robertson Memorial United Church until it closed in 1997 and it was here that Mom and Dad enjoyed many long lasting friendships. Mom was a great reader, mostly mysteries and the Free Press, which she would read thoroughly front to back every day, keeping her right up on current events. Funeral Service to take place on Friday, October 25, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment and reception to follow In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Manitoba Heart and Stroke, The Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
