TED FINKBEINER November 30, 1915 - October 24, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Ted Finkbeiner on October 24, 2013 at the age of 97. He was predeceased by Molly, his beloved wife of 63 years, his brothers Syd and Johnnie, his sister June and his grandson Michael. He is survived by his older sister Madeline, his sons Don (Barb) and Doug (Pat), grandchildren John (Lynsay), James, Dan, Jared and Jayde and great-grandsons Kaelan, Alder and Ahren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dad was born in Isabella, Manitoba and spent his early years on the farm, a life he enjoyed greatly. Sport was an important part of his life. As a boy and young man he played hockey and baseball, sports that he loved throughout his life. In his adult years he curled and became a very enthusiastic and capable golfer. Physical activity was a vital part of his life; he continued to golf and work out at the gym into his early nineties. Dad and Mom married on November 23, 1940 and on November 25, 1940 he left home to serve his country in the Second World War. He was posted to Bomber Command in Great Britain where he served proudly for over four years, returning home in March, 1945. On his return home he was hired by Air Canada (then Trans Canada Airlines) where he worked until his retirement in 1976. Dad and Mom loved to travel and they did so throughout the world into their eighties. They particularly enjoyed the many golf trips they took with their friends from Assiniboine Golf Course. He was a wonderful father. He was always the dad who drove his sons and their friends to any sporting event in which they were involved he seldom missed a game. He was always an enthusiastic supporter - never critical. He appreciated sport for what it should be; just a game. He also understood the importance of sports for children so, along with other men in his area, for many years he organized and ran the Optimists Club baseball league for boys in St. James. He was blessed with a happy and friendly demeanour so he always had a wonderful group of friends who greatly enriched his life. He enjoyed every aspect of his long and happy life; travelling with Mom, playing golf with the boys, watching his sons play sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He was loved by so many. He will be missed. A Celebration of Life in Dad's memory will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 13, 2013. In Dad's memory, we encourage donations to the United Way of Winnipeg Tomorrow Fund (the Molly and Ted Finkbeiner Fund), 580 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3B 1C7 or a charity of your choice. • My condolences to Ted's family. Ted was my favorite tenant at Kiltarton Towers. Most days when I was coming into work he was on his way out to the gym. • I enjoyed working with Ted for over 20 years. You are so right when you speak of Ted's interest in sports - I remember kidding him about his ability to remember sports records, etc. I asked him if he knew who won the world's first ping pong championship - he immediately answered, China in 1928 - Posted by: Moe Kelly (Air Canada Flight Crew Scheduling) on: Oct 29, 2013
