MARIE JOHNSON Marie Johnson passed away peacefully on October 23, 2013. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Janet, her two granddaughters, Ellen and Karen, and many relatives and friends. Marie was born in Winnipeg to Arthur and Jennie Van Walleghem and attended St. Ignatious School, Earl Grey School, Kelvin High School and St. Mary's Academy. As the wife of a military man, she spent many of her adult years away from home and lived in Gimli, France, Trenton and Ottawa. She was happy to return home to Winnipeg in 1968 and has lived here since that time. Marie was predeceased by her mother and father, her son, Michael, in 1970, her daughter, Linda, in 1979 and her husband, Fred, in 2012. Losing her children was devastating, but she remained exceedingly strong and provided tremendous support for her remaining family. Marie had a tender, patient heart and always was able to see the good in everyone she met. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Family always came first. She was delighted with the births of her granddaughters and treasured every moment she spent with them. Ellen and Karen have many happy memories of time with Grandma over the years. She was so proud of her grandchildren as they grew older and was always an integral and precious part of their lives. They will always cherish the special, loving relationship they had with her. Mom, we know you are in a better place, where you will no longer suffer from the debilitating effects of Alzheimers. We thank you for all you have done for us and for your unconditional, eternal love. We will never forget the sacrifices you made and will miss your wonderful smile and kind soul. We are grateful to have had you in our lives. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring fourth floor staff at the Poseidon Care Centre. Their unwavering compassion and support was appreciated. At Marie's request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation has taken place and the ashes will be located at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website.
