JOSEPH JUMAGA January 23, 1941 - October 19, 2013 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Joe Jumaga at the age of 72 years. He passed away peacefully at Seven Oaks Hospital surrounded by his family. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol; two sons, Ward Hrabi (Cathy), Wayne Hrabi (Debbie); daughter Wendy Gratton (Real); as well as six grandchildren, David, Ryan, Noah, Natalie, Danielle and Nicole. He is also survived by his sister Elsie Kent (Brian); brother-in-law Jack Oppeboen; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Wasyl (Wes) and Mary Jumaga; brothers: Richard, Michael, Peter, Roy, Stanley; sisters: Elaine Prokop, Rose Smith, Jean Dybka and Ann Melnyk. Born in Olha, Manitoba, Joe resided there until moving to Winnipeg. He was a dedicated employee at Manitoba Hydro for 35 years. Starting as a general labourer, he moved up within the company to the position of surveyor, and retired as a Driver Operator for Haulage Services. As a surveyor, Joe received a commendation from the Department for being instrumental in changing the format for all Stakers that followed. Engineering people claimed "this will result in substantial savings". As a Driver Operator, he received a 30 year safe-working award, as well as other awards. Joe was very proud of his children and their accomplishments, and adored his grandchildren. He had a soft heart and would help anyone who asked, and the proverbial saying "give you the shirt off his back" applies here. Joe loved his dogs, cats and all animals. As well as fishing, he enjoyed playing musical instruments, especially the guitar. In his earlier years he sang and played with the Sunset Valley Boys at various local venues. In accordance with Joe's wishes, there will be no formal service. A special thanks to Dr. P. Connelly and the staff at Holy Family Nursing Home for the excellent care and compassion Joseph received, while a resident there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to D'Arcy's A.R.C., The Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
