JAMES MARTIN DEVLIN November 23, 1965 - October 24, 2013 It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the untimely and accidental passing of Jim on October 24, 2013 at the age of 47. Jim leaves behind his loving wife Rachel and his puppies (kids) Spirit and Sadie; his brothers and sisters John (Maureen), Sarah (Ed), Maria (Larry) and Patrick (Barb); mother-in-law Sylvia, brother-in-law Gord (Arlene) and Rachel's special Uncle Dave. Jim is survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and close friends, too numerous to list, in Canada, Ireland and England. Jim immigrated with his family to Winnipeg from Belfast, Northern Ireland, in 1970 and settled in Fort Rouge. His fierce love of family was evident in his caring and helping nature. His sense of humour and thoughtful personality allowed Jim to form many long lasting relationships throughout his life. While his love of all sports kept him involved throughout his life in soccer, baseball, hockey, fishing, bowling, boxing and ultimate frisbee; his true passions were golf and curling, which he shared with the love of his life, Rachel. Jim was a long time member of the Fort Rouge Curling Club and in recent years the Wildewood Golf Club. He was also a die-hard Bruins, Vikings, Bomber and Jets fan. Jim dealt with life on life's terms. His drive and conviction was evident to any group or organization with which he was associated. Whether he was on a committee at the curling club or at a meeting at the Winnipeg Group, Jim would give his all to get the job done. He could often be found taking long walks with Rachel and his puppies on the riverside beside Churchill Drive. This provided Jim with comfort and quiet time to reflect on the blessings he was given in life. Most days after work in the summer, you could find Jim at the golf course mentoring friends and family or competitively challenging Rachel or his good friend and nemesis Mike to a game of "skins". Jim was a man of faith and belief in his God. He would openly share his experiences with his many close friends if it would help them. When there were trying times in his life, Jim rose above them with the help of God and used them in service of his fellow man. He will be missed and remembered by all his life has touched. His actions spoke louder than words ever could and he was a rock for all who needed him. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Sunday, November 3 at 1:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Heart Foundation or the charity of your choosing. "And in the pain I felt a presence, in the shadows I felt a light, Didn't know what God had given me, my new Angel that night." (204) 586-8044

  • My heartfelt sympathies go out to Rachel, Maria and the whole Devlin family. After not having seen Jim for many years, we crossed paths on Churchill Dr. during dog walks. As we parted ways, I always thought, "Geez! What a nice couple!" Besides being a real gentleman, the image of Jim I will always carry in my mind is when he had really long (past the shoulders) curly dark hair that most women would pay a lot of money to have. I pray for Jim's family and for the repose of Jim's soul. Sincerely, Kathy Adams - Posted by: Kathy Adams (High School Friend) on: Nov 04, 2013

  • Jim was a breath of fresh air to work with. He had a great personality and provided our team with the utmost service. He was a great man. When a person touches people on a frIEnd relationship it is one thing. However in reading the many posts from many business colleagues, we all can tell the sort of man he really was and you begin to realize just how big of a hole he will have left both in his personal life as well as those he worked with. Heartfelt condolences to the Devlin family - Posted by: Julie Ross (Business Friend ) on: Nov 01, 2013

  • My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Jim. He will be missed and fondly remembered as a kind and genuine person who made a lasting, positive impression on others. His integral sharing of life will always shine brightly among those lucky enough to have heard his words. - Posted by: Sheila L. (friend) on: Nov 01, 2013

  • To Jimmy's wife, family, and friends, my sincerest condolences. Having worked closely with Jimmy the last 2 years I have no doubt that he would want us all to not suffer in the sorrow of this tragic situation, rather remember the incredible times that we shared together with him. Being an outside sales rep although having its perks, is a tough job. Before Jimmy went out on a sales call I would always wish him a sincere "Good Luck" as I understood how easily his job could be under appreciated. Regardless of how his day "pounding the pavement" may have gone, he would always walk back into the office in high spirits and ready to talk about my Chiefs, his Bruins, or any other current sporting news. I still can't believe that I will never see him walk through that door with his laptop slung over his shoulder and that warm genuine smile on his face. Jimmy's obvious overabundance of love for his wife, and his conquering of addiction are two things that will always inspire me. Jimmy's humor, sincerity, and tremendous personality will be forever missed, yet never forgotten. God bless you Jimmy, may you rest in peace good buddy. - Posted by: Steve Kaltchev (Friend, Coworker) on: Oct 31, 2013
