GERALD (JERRY) ALLAN DEIBERT June 19, 1940 - October 27, 2013 It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of our much-loved husband, Dad and Grandpa / Papa. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Edna; son Kevin, daughter-in-law Heather, and granddaughters Sarah and Taylor; daughter Nancy, son-in-law Rob, and grandson Ian; siblings and in-laws Frank (Rosalie) of Saskatoon, Joan of Calgary, Trish of Saskatoon, Lorne (Even) of Calgary, Paulette (Jens) of Saskatoon, Ernie of Gilbert Plains; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Eva and John, his brother Gilbert, sister Joyce, and in-laws Hank, and Lucy. Dad was born in Macklin, SK, the second of seven children. He grew up in and around Allan, SK, and spent the majority of his adult life in Winnipeg. But true to his roots, he cheered green and white, and a Roughriders ball cap was a staple. Dad was humble, but proud of the life he built with our mom, and especially proud and supportive of his children and grandchildren. He took pride in his 31-year career at Manitoba Hydro. Seven years of fond memories were made in Gillam, where Dad enjoyed the northern camaraderie, fishing, playing and coaching hockey, playing broomball, and skidooing. In retirement, Dad was proud of his 13 years of service as a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. We remember and honour a man who was thoughtful, kind, generous and softhearted. Dad had a quick laugh, and especially enjoyed hearing our stories of good-natured mischief, and liked to share his own. We remember a hard worker, who was particular and precise, and expected the same of those around him. He liked to rap' on the first round of 31, and often mock-scoffed "Who dealt this mess?". Dad loved kids, and his grandchildren are gifts he cherished with all his heart, and they each brought him much joy. Ian carries on Papa's "very excellent" whistling talents. Sarah remembers Grandpa's gentle cheek-pinch greeting, and with Taylor, Grandpa's great waving style will live on, with an exaggerated wrist-wave, and a big smile. We are saddened by our loss, and feel the void in our hearts. But our grief is laced with gratefulness, for the closeness we share as a family, the kindnesses extended by others, and for the swift manner of Dad's passing. We take comfort in knowing he didn't suffer or linger. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us everyday. A celebration of Dad's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 1, 2013 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons. Desjardins 233-4949 1-888-233-4949 www.desjardinsfuneralchapel.ca

Condolences & Memories (11 entries)

  • Auntie Ed, Kevin & Heather, Nancy & Rob, Ian, Sarah & Taylor: Uncle Jerry was a truly genuine and sincere man. His care and concern for me personally over the years will hold true in my heart. From the smallest of things: like insisting on a new belt for my car (which it really did need!) to absolute concern over which part of the city I was living. I will never forget his hearty laugh, the mischievous twinkle in his eyes or the fact that he liked ketchup in his chicken noodle soup. I will miss him dearly. - Posted by: Arleigh Mouck (Neice) on: Nov 04, 2013

  • Edna, Kevin, Nancy, Heather, Rob, Ian, Sarah, Taylor. I can only guess how much the passing of my brother, your husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather saddens all of you at this time. I will greatly miss my brother and know that he is now at peace and in a good place to continue to look after all of you in a different way than that here on earth. Bless his soul and keep him in your memories and remember all the good times you have had with him as I know that all of you were very close to Gerry. God Bless. - Posted by: Lorne Deibert & Even Wong (Brother) on: Nov 04, 2013

  • We are very sorry to hear of Uncle Jerry's passing. I wish we could have seen each other more as I was growing up and I know he would have liked our son Keegan, I wish he was able to spend time with Uncle Jerry. One thing I do know for sure is he was happiest with his family. Please know that we are thinking of you at this time. - Posted by: Tracy,Mark, and Keegan Grzybek () on: Nov 04, 2013

  • To Ian, Taylor, and Sarah: You guys don't know how proud Grandpa was of you. He kept us very well posted of all your activities and accomplishments. As a matter of fact, sometimes we felt as little jealous of all the time Grandpa could spend with you. We only get a chance to see some of our grandchildren two or three times a year. You brought a lot of pleasure and happiness to Grandpa's life. You are lucky to have so many wonderful memories. - Posted by: Auntie and UncleFran: (Aunt and Aunt) on: Oct 31, 2013

  • We were so saddened to hear the sad news of Jerry's passing. We will always remember his gentleness and his interest and concern of all the people back home in Allan. A non complaining gentleman he was and we were so fortunate to have him as a friend and classmate. We are so thankful that we had such a good visit with Jerry and Edna back in May and we will miss him as many will. Always could count on him calling on my birthday. Know how difficult this is for you Edna, but sounds like you were the BEST caregiver according to Jerry and of that you can be very proud and know that the good memories and good times will help you through this most difficult time. Our sincere sympathy to you Edna and your family we will remember you in our prayers during these difficult days. You now have an Angel looking out for you from above. - Posted by: Ed and Andelina Senger (Friend and cousin to Ed) on: Oct 30, 2013
