ARTHUR HUGH LAMONT On October 31, 2013, Arthur Hugh Lamont, a loving servant of our Lord, died peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge where he had just celebrated his 96th birthday. Art was born on a farm in Margaret, MB. Following graduation from Brandon College and meteorology studies in Toronto, ON, he began his career at the RCAF weather office in Rivers, MB. On a weekend leave to Winnipeg, he met Lois Sinclair whom he married in 1945. Weather forecasting remained Art's second love and dictated that they live at various times in Churchill, MB, Summerside, PEI, Hamilton, ON, Toronto, ON and four years with RCAF One Wing, in Marville, France. At the time of his formal retirement in 1980, Art was in charge of the Environment Canada weather office Winnipeg. Post-retirement, being a proud prairie boy, not content with the easy life, Art continued weather forecasting for high altitude balloon research flights from Gimli, MB and wrote a widely-read weather column for grain growers. Art is survived by his wife Lois (Sinclair), son David (Shelley Shapko) and two grandsons Sean (Megan Yunke) and Parker, daughter Susan (Dale Hnatiuk). Art's interests included travel to many parts of the world visiting family and friends. He was always reading and studying. He had a great appreciation for God's creation. He enjoyed golf, gardening, curling and bridge as a past time. Art was an Elder at Westwood Presbyterian Church, where he had many friends and close fellowship. The loving support of many years of this special family was dearly cherished by Art and Lois. A memorial service will be held at the church, 197 Browning Boulevard, on Friday, November 8 at 2:00 p.m. A private family interment has already taken place. For the care and compassion extended by the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge, Art's family extends their sincere thanks. Should family and friends so desire, donations in memory of Arthur, can be made to this Salvation Army personal care home, located at 811 School Road, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 0S8.
