CRAIG MICHAEL HEBERT It is with profound sadness the families announce the passing of Craig Michael Hebert, on October 28, 2013 at the age of 43 years after a long valiant struggle with liver disease. Craig will be lovingly remembered by his wife Shannon Bell; daughters Ashley, Alyssa, and Isabella; his father Sandy Hebert (Sandra); his mother Lynn MacMartin (Wally); and his brother Paul (Kim, Mitchell and Taylor). Craig will be missed by his aunt Shelley Allen (Fred); cousins Kelly (Ryder), Shannon (Bob) and Sean; step-sister Shauna Beatty and step-brother Rob Beatty (Karen) of Calgary. Craig served with distinction in the Royal Canadian Navy as a diver, NCO, and ship's air controller before returning to Winnipeg. During his last years both Craig and Shannon (who was Craig's organ donor in 2008), worked in support of The Manitoba Liver Foundation while participating in other charities such as Operation Red Nose. All who came to know Craig were aware that he was a man of conviction who wore his heart on his sleeve, and lived a life of passion, action and self discovery, no matter how challenging the road. His quick humor, love and generosity he held and displayed to his family and friends will always be cherished by those who had the privilege to know him and love him. "If there is any truer measure of a man than by what he does, it must be by what he gives", and our Craig gave his all in everything he did and for everyone he knew. In keeping with Craig's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. Should one so desire, donations may be made in his memory to London Health Sciences Foundation c/o Transplant Program, University Hospital, 747 Baseline Road East, London, Ontario, N6C 2R6 or charity of choice. Please sign your organ donor card. Special thanks to the Palliative Care and Home Care teams in Ste. Anne's and Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach. "Perhaps they are not stars, but openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy." • Almost 3 years, buddy. I think about you almost every day and miss you like mad. I wish you were still here to joke with and have amazing conversations about life and people. Every time I hear a Foo Fighters song, I know you're coming by to say hello. See you on the other side. - Posted by: Karen (Friend) on: Sep 06, 2016

  • It is with a sad heart that I pass along our condolences to Craig's family. I first met Craig during our post deployment to Op FRICTION back in '91. We quickly became friends as he did with everyone that he was around. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family knowing that someone so loved will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Greg and Tracey Flemming (friend and sailor) on: Nov 17, 2013

  • I sailed with Craig on HMCS Preserver. His sense of humour helped pass the time while on deployment and he came up with some wicked ideas for practical jokes. Like when we map tacked our boss' jacket to the deckhead. He was also the person who peaked my interest to become a Shipborne Air Controller. My deepest condolences to his family. Craig, 2 miles back, maintain! - Posted by: Randy Muttitt (Former Shipmate) on: Nov 17, 2013

  • I Sailed with Craig when he first joined the Navy in 1991 on HMCS Terra Nova and again on HMCS Toronto in 1998. No matter how insane or busy the operational tempo was, Craig was always quick to offer up some crazy antic or another to make those around him forget the bad crap and smile or giggle for a few moments. Craig was proud in service and he was a skilled NCI OP and an AWESOME Air Controller. I will always remember Craig and will miss him for sure. I send my deepest and most heartfelt sympathy to his family and pray that God will bless you and provide you some peace in this sad time. - Posted by: Rod Helpard (Friend) on: Nov 16, 2013

  • Our sincere condolences. I worked with Craig for a very short period of time. The days were always brighter and much more exciting when he was in the room. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. - Posted by: Marty and Ev Jerrom () on: Nov 03, 2013

  • I met Craig only twice at PBC Society meetings. In that short time I found him to be filled with good humor and acceptance of his condition. I remember that once he paid for the lunch or supper when our group met but he would not admit to doing so. The daughter of one of our members called us "The Liver Ladies" so when Craig joined us I quipped, "The Liver Ladies and One Lad." Please accept my deepest sympathy and God's blessing upon the family.
