JAMES (JIM) ROTHWELL It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend on Thursday, October 31, 2013. He leaves to mourn his wife of 66 years, Irene, and his children, Brian (Gwen), Neil (Esther), Bruce (Charl), and David. Grandchildren: Sherry (Kaj), Michael (Jennifer), Erin (Vikram), and Carrie (Corey). Great-grandchildren: Isaiah, Jasmine, Carson and Madeline. Jim was predeceased by his parents: Hollard and Julia; his brothers: John, Dave, Lorne, Ted, Sam and Tom; and his sisters: Florence, Doris and Lillian. Jim was born in Stonewall, Manitoba on May 5, 1925. He grew up in Argyle and later in Woodlands. At the age of 17 and one half years, he volunteered for service in the Second World War and fought with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) in Italy. In 1947, he married his sweetheart, Irene Carlson, from Meadows, Manitoba and there they started their family. The Meadows community was very special to them. Irene continued her teaching career while Jim ran the family general store. In 1967, Jim started work for the Winnipeg School Division as a custodian until retirement in 1988. Jim and Irene have lived in Stonewall since 1986 and residing in the Lions Manor has been a tremendous joy to them. They made many friends in Stonewall and enjoyed all activities at Lions Manor, especially playing cards. Dad was a kind, loving and friendly soul, and the most important thing to him was his family and friends. Friends are invited to a Come and Go at the 55+ Centre in Stonewall (5 Keith Cosens Dr.) to celebrate Jim's life on Monday, November 4, 2013 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Stonewall Legion.
