BUDDY WAYNE PARNELL It is with heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend Buddy Wayne Parnell. On October 30, 2013 the world lost a great man. Pops left us at the young age of 70 after a courageous battle with leukemia. Bud was born on October 19, 1943 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was predeceased by his parents Fred and Mary Parnell. He leaves behind his wonderful wife of 42 years, Marlene, his sons Brent, Blaine and David, his daughters-in-law Brandi, Lisa and Michelle and his beautiful grandchildren Hudson and Gage, Madden and Cooper and Rowan and Neveah. Bud was a proud North End boy who grew up on Boyd and Inkster. He began his insurance career that spanned four decades at Canadian Indemnity where he worked for 10 years. He was part of a group that launched The Advocate and eventually retired from MPIC. All throughout his career, Bud made friendships wherever he worked. He was an incredible host who always had an open door and a joke. Bud was a life long Montreal Canadiens fan that grew to love the Winnipeg Jets. Although his two first loves were hockey and baseball, he also cheered for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Minnesota Vikings. When his boys were small he coached them with pride. Ask any young man in St. James and they will tell you he had an impact on their life in sports. He was his grandkids' biggest fan. Providing he wasn't getting a blood transfusion, Grandpa never missed a game. Together he and Marlene loved musicals, travelling the globe, golfing, dinners with good friends and spending summers at the family cottage. Relatives, family and friends were always welcome at the cabin he helped to build with his friends in Grand Beach and in recent years at their new cabin in Grand Marais. Pops made homemade wine that was served at many Sunday dinners. He was proud of his roots and had a great love for his mother's Polish food. Bud was an incredible husband who put his family first. His legacy lies in the family and friends he leaves behind. He fought a great fight and was proud and courageous until the end. Throughout the past 28 months, he never complained, he was always brave. Solace comes knowing that he is no longer in pain. It is with deep gratitude that we thank friends, family and the church community for their love, support and thoughtful gestures. Special thanks to CancerCare, especially Dr. Seftel, his nurse Tamara and Arthur as well as the Palliative Care nurses, especially Chris and Jen. A celebration of Bud's life will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, 7:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. In lieu of flowers, please give blood, or donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or Crestview United Church. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE 204-949-2200

It is with sadness that I heard about Bud's passing. Upon hearing the news from Terry, the sadness was quickly replaced with the a rush of good memories filled my head. I remember crossing the "man-made-lake" an untold number of times heading toward the Parnell house for a game of street hockey against the "Parnell boys" (which always included Tumber and Adams). Bud was always a fixture at the games, watching and encouraging us all of the time! I cannot count the number of hockey and ball teams I was on where Bud was a coach. Only in recent years have I truly realized how "good" a childhood us kids of North Lake, South Lake, Chapman, Galbraith, Lake Ridge, etc. were afforded. I attribute this to our parents, and the likes of Bud who always put our interests first and allowed us to grow up and enjoy being kids as long as possible. Thank you Bud. I will never forget the great memories you and the other parents allowed us to create! You will be missed. J Danter - Posted by: J Danter (North Lake "Rival") on: Nov 07, 2013

Marlene, Brent, Blaine, David & families. It with our deepest condolences that we send this. On behalf of the Vosper family, Dustin, Scott and Rob and their families, we are so thankful that we were lucky enough to have had the privilege to be a part of Bud's life. We remember when we first met Bud as coach of Dustin & Scott's first hockey team, as so well remembered by Doug Tumber St. Charles "Les Habs”. This was our first venture into sport in the community and a chance to meet new people. We were totally accepted by everyone. All our boys and many in the community well remember Bud's contribution over the years to all sports in our area. We also remember all the good times that our families had together. I also think of when the boys were growing up in their younger years the battles between the Arnason coached teams and the Parnell coached teams. We had great times discussing those at the Arnason "ranch" over the fire after the winter trail rides, while sitting by the fire. Barry always told a great story (perhaps about a win)!! As we, the parents, all grew a little older, we never seemed to have the time to get together and renew those relationships. I know that our children still maintain those friendships, though perhaps not as close as they once were, but to me that is great to see. Unfortunately I won't be able to be at the Celebration of Life, but Linda will attend. For those that are there, perhaps it will be a chance to set up another "Get Together" to catch up and reconnect. Marlene and family. Sorry to hear of Bud's passing. I have had the pleasure of knowing Bud since the mid sixties when we worked together at C.I. Over the years we spent a lot of time playing ball and hockey. He was very competitive but nothing less than a gentleman. It was great to see him through the past summer and have some great chats while we proudly watched our grandsons play ball. He will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. - Posted by: Brian and Julie Dyck (Friends) on: Nov 05, 2013

On behalf of the Tumber family, our deepest condolences go out to the entire Parnell family in this time of mourning. Growing up as a neighbour in St. James, the Parnell house was a second home to me, and Mr. and Mrs. P were like second parents. I can fondly remember the many baseball games in the backyard, summers at the Grand Beach cottage, and many minor hockey teams he coached (all coincidentally named “St. Charles Les Habs” after his love of the Montreal Canadians). Although it is with great sadness that Mr. P will no longer be with us, it is comforting to know that his fight over the last two years allowed him the opportunity to experience things he had always wanted to do, and provided him and his family the ability to cherish every extra day together. He will be greatly missed by many. - Posted by: Doug Tumber (Long time neighbour and family friend) on: Nov 05, 2013

I had the privilege of working with Bud at MPI from 1987 to 1994. Bud was a soft-spoken gentleman who could always be counted on for support. Bud enjoyed humor as I do and could always be called upon to share a laugh. We have truly lost one of the "good ones". My sincerest condolences and that of my family are extended to the Parnell family on their loss. - Posted by: Don Halbert (Friend/Co-worker) on: Nov 03, 2013

Dear Marlene and families: We are so sorry to learn of Bud's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. We have fond memories of beach visits and a very special visit years ago where I (Barb) learned so much about the concept of risk and risk insurance, something that I have used ever since. We are both sorry that we can't be with you on Wednesday but the Clubb family will be well represented.
