ERNA DUECK Erna Dueck was born December 26, 1948 to her parents, Cornelius and Helena Dueck in Morris. She grew up in a Christian home, on a farm in the Rosenort area, being baptized on July 5, 1964 and became a member of the Rosenort EMC. She was generally a reserved, quiet girl, conscientious and industrious in her studies. She graduated from Rosenort High School in 1968, and then moved to Winnipeg to pursue some career training. She graduated from the Certified General Accountant's program in 1985. Her CGA career took her into a number of different industries: construction, tourism, automotive, agriculture, research and development. She also used her skills to serve in a financial capacity at her home church, the Fort Garry EMC. Her career goals were stunted many times by her health issues. In May, 1996 Erna was diagnosed with breast cancer, in early 1998 with colon cancer. In summer of 2004, she was again diagnosed with breast cancer and it had now spread into her lymph nodes. October 30, 2012 she was told she had a fourth cancer and it was metastasized breast cancer. On October 28, 2013 the doctor informed her, they had done what they could and would not advise further treatment. She passed away peacefully at 7:00 a.m. on November 2, 2013 at her home. She is survived by four sisters: Adina Doerksen, Margaret (Henry) Rempel, Adela Dueck, Emily (Jake) Friesen, and one brother: Mervin (Susan) Dueck, and 12 nieces and nephews and their families. She will also be missed by many close friends. Erna was predeceased by her parents, Cornelius and Helena Dueck and her brother-in law, Roy Doerksen. As a family, we would like to thank the many people in the Health Care system and personal friends who cared for and supported Erna over her 17 year journey with cancer, some from the beginning. It meant a lot to Erna and us. The funeral was held Thursday, November 7, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at the Fort Garry EMC church with internment at the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. I happen be visiting in Manitoba last week - My sister-in-law gave me Erna's book to read. I have not had cancer but the book affected me as I had been working as a nurse many years. After I finished the book I felt many more people should read the book to be informed how cancer patient's feel while they are under going "their fight to live" . The fighting to live continue's even after you finish all the treatment . It also teaches us to live our life "fully" . Thank you Erna - I was truly blessed to get to know you through your book - Posted by: Christina Isaak (no relation) on: Nov 09, 2013

I had the privilege of serving on a church board with Erna many years ago. I had a great deal of respect and admiration for her. For her personal strength, her integrity, her intellect, her clarity of thought, her faith and her willingness to serve. She was a special woman. - Posted by: Kent Fast (Friend) on: Nov 06, 2013
