GERALD JOSEPH URSCHATZ August 15, 1945 November 4, 2013 It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Gerry (Ger, Dad, Gpa) after several health complications over the past years. Left to cherish his memory are his mother Freda; children Dustin, Alison (Lyle); stepchildren Craig (Angie), Victoria (Terry), Erik (Alana); siblings Richard (Wanda), Donnalyn (Conrad); grandchildren Jade, Madison, Ryan, Jack, Brett and Lane; Godson Kristjian and several wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Sydney, son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Heidi, father Adolf, aunt Mae and niece Kimberley. Growing up in East Kildonan dad was a very mischievous boy, always allowing for a great story in the later years. As a child he spent many summers at Brereton Lake in the Whiteshell. This is where his love for water began, evolving into annual men's fishing trips and family trips related to time on the water. Curling and canasta enthusiast he was, enjoying time with others. Even in those years dad would carry a favourite tune or one which he created. Dad spent most of his career within the telecommunication industry, almost three decades at MTS. Yet he always spoke of his favourite job as a driver for 7-up. In 1966 dad married Beverly Robinson and together they raised their three children in Charleswood. Growing up, dad was a very loving and involved father. We especially enjoyed his great efforts around camping trips on S-island in Lake of the Woods, boating, water skiing, fishing at Green Lake, windsurfing at Victoria Beach. Dad certainly appreciated family time and all water activities. In 1990 he met Sydney Kemp and extended the family to include his step children, Erik and Victoria. His labor of love with his wife Sydney was their cottage at Steep Rock, MB which created 25 years of precious memories. Dad was not only known for his infamous sense of humour that often got him in trouble he was also known for making up is own classic jokes. There is no doubt that he wore his emotion and sensitivity on his sleeve, from having a hard time filleting a fish to watching his favorite romantic movies every day. Thank you to the nursing staff at Concordia Hospital. Many thanks to PA Kim B. for her care for both dad and his family, it showed. Gladys in Rehab Physio, thank you for the encouragement you shared with dad. We'd also like to thank U. Richard and A.Wanda, A. Donnalyn and U.Con for their love, loyalty and sacrifice shown toward dad during these past months. A private gathering has been held to honour dad's life with us. If you choose, in lieu of flowers please donate to the War Amps Champ Program. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, wojciksfuneralchapel.com 204 586 - 8668.

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Had the pleasure of working with Gerry for his last 10 years at MTS. Gerry was more than a co=worker, we became good friends, went for walks at lunch time, watched and listened as he built his dream cottage at Steeprock. My wife Betty and I had the pleasure of meeting Sydney who made Gerry so very happy. Gerry and I travelled on several business trips after his career at MTS and we shared so many good times together. Gerry had a great sense of humour and I will always remember his smile and quick wit. Take Care and rest in peace Jim Ritchie - Posted by: Jim Ritchie (Friend and Co worker) on: Nov 10, 2013
