ROBERT WILLIAM MCINTOSH March 18, 1924 - November 5, 2013 Peacefully, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 with family by his side, Bob passed away at the Grace Hospital. Bob was born in Souris, Manitoba to Florence and James McIntosh. The family moved to Fort William, Ontario when Bob was a teenager. He had already met the love of his life, Billie, who followed him to Fort William. Bob and Billie moved between Fort William and Souris before settling in Winnipeg. Bob is predeceased by his beloved Billie, his first son Jay, his parents, and his brothers Don and Jack. He will be greatly missed by his son Shawn (Kathy), his sister Francis, his daughter-in-law Kathy Anderson (Tim), his grandchildren: Michael Anderson (Doreen), Justin Anderson, Sara Down (Rob), Tim Anderson, Heather McIntosh (Jesse), and Michael McIntosh and his great-grandchildren all of whom he adored. Bob began his career as an aeronautical designer at Canada Car in Fort William before moving to Winnipeg and making his mark at Bristol Aerospace. Bob had an instrumental role in the design of the Lockheed L1011. Bob was a proud member of the Elks Lodge #10 and with Billie's involvement with the Royal Purple Lodge #12, they made many lifelong friends whom he cherished dearly. Bob was an avid golfer. He liked to travel to a rural golf course. Many a morning he'd be long gone before the sun rose traveling to a small Manitoba town for a round of golf, taking in the sites along the way. Bob was a gifted artist. He would start a doodle on a napkin and it would turn into an amazing pencil sketch or a water colour painting. He loved Big Band music. He and Billie could tear up a dance floor. Bob could not pass by an empty piano bench without sitting down to play a little ditty. A memorial service will take place on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Kowalchuk's Funeral Home, corner of 5th Avenue and 2nd Street in Souris, Manitoba. Flowers are appreciatively declined, if so desired please make a donation to the Elks and Royal Purple Fund for Children, 100 2629 29th Ave., Regina, SK S4S 2N9. • I was still wet behind the ears when the L-1011 program started and were it not for Bob's patient encouragement, guidance and support, I would likely have made a hash of my department's involvement with the program! Ever the perfect gentleman, always kind words, always bright and cheerful... Bob was one-of-a-kind. Like Dave Jenkinson below, I became fluent in Bob's special language. For many meetings, he asked me to "prepare the grooming aid" - background info for meeting attendees - and afterwards, "issue the demand action memo" - who does what. Many times, we together "confronted specs as written" - analyzed and interpreted them. He asked me what was the "factor of dwell" - curing time - for a newly introduced polymer paint. Some found Bob's pronouncements obscure. For them I drafted a lexicon of Bob-isms. I found his language elegant and expressive and still use it to this day. It's unfortunate that no service is being held in Winnipeg as I for one would have attended to pay tribute to this fine man and I suspect many fellow retirees would have wanted to do so as well. He was well-liked across the Bristol spectrum. I offer my sincerest condolences to all Bob's family. May you be comforted in your loss. - Posted by: Gord Richardson (Co-worker at Bristol Aerospace) on: Nov 15, 2013

  • Uncle Bob was the patriarch of the McIntosh clan. His hearing and asthma prevented him physically from doing the things his two brothers did, but his intellectual gifts were plentiful. He took a keen interest in my investment career, a passion of his too. Bob was always visiting family despite the miles, a path we should all tread, because family is all we have until they too pass on. Bob loved dogs whether they liked him or not! Our Malamute Duke liked Bob and so did my two boys. He will be missed. Love Grant & family. London, Ontario - Posted by: Grant McIntosh (Nephew) on: Nov 15, 2013

  • I'll always remember Uncle Bob as full of humour and with a bunch of great stories to tell. Always smiling and doodling some pretty amazing things, and up for anything interesting. He inspired my artistic interests with his easy talent. I wish we had lived closer to visit more often but the times we did see him were awesome. I'm sad he is gone and will miss him greatly but my memories are fond ones and I'm glad to know he is now with Billie, Bessie, Reg, Doreen and Norm. Condolences and love to my relatives in Manitoba ♥ Love Marilyn Cox, daughter of Greg and Judith Cox. - Posted by: Marilyn Cox (Great niece) on: Nov 12, 2013

  • I too met Bob while we were employed at Bristol and always found him to be a kind and gentle soul. As one of the Managers of the Production Engineers he would flavour his instructions to us with his 'Bobism's' like; "Let's all huddle around in cabbage leaf formation" (sort this problem out collectively) and "What we need is a good appreciation for a mark one eyeball" (let's do what is practical and makes sense). He was well respected by everyone, office and shop floor alike. He will be missed. To Shawn and Kathy; Your dad was one of the good ones. I'm sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Dave Jenkinson (Co-worker) on: Nov 12, 2013

  • I met Bob in 1970 when I first went to work at Bristol Aerospace, he always had a joke to relate or some life story. We shared many a golf game through the Bristol Golf Group including tournaments in Grand Forks which Billie would attend with other wives for the purpose of shopping. At times Bob would book the Elks Club for certain ones in the group to share dinner. I interacted with Bob in the 1990's regarding the Drawing Control of the CF5 aircraft drawings from Canadair Montreal and had many a personal chat with him. He did wonderful drawings and sketches over the years and was still doodling the last time I had contact with him at his residence in the Wellington a few months ago. I'm sure the staff at the Wellington appreciated his sketches for their tenants monthly newsletter, always with his red apple signature. As far as I recall Bob was still able to get in an occasional golf game with some of his Bristol buddies this summer. He made the most of his life with all his interests, it's quality of life not quantity and Bob had both for the better part. I will always remember Bob for his whit and sense of humour and I'm just sorry that I cannot attend his memorial service but wish to convey my condolences to the family. Yet another of the good old Bristol family have left us. God Bless you Bob, you are now with your beloved Billie. - Posted by: Carol Pauls (Friend) on: Nov 11, 2013
